drive line suggestions

I have a 72 c10 long bed, I will be putting in a 454 bb in the truck and it will be around a 1000hp. I was wanting to know any companies that I can get a two piece rated for that and or where I could get a one piece for that application. oh almost forgot it is a 2wd, also it has a th400

thank you

Re: drive line suggestions

Inland empire driveshaft is a good for that.

Myself I am a fan 2 piece driveshafts, and at your designated hp rating your going to want to step it up. If your going steel i would do a 2 piece, and if carbon fiber 1 piece maybe ideal.

Re: drive line suggestions

I agree with a 2pc and with the HD carrier bearing not the whimpy light duty one that most people seem to use and have troubles with.

Re: drive line suggestions

A 454 with a 1000 hp? turbo or super charged? You will need a good build on your turbo 400 and I would put a 9" in the truck.

Re: drive line suggestions

I think 1350 u-joints would be needed at least. Solids not greaseable.

Re: drive line suggestions

I am assuming you are using a one piece shaft...

Note...you will have trouble keeping a two piece shaft in this truck with a blown BB in it.

Truck at normal ride height

Place transmission output yolk inside the trans fully, then pull the yolk out one inch.

Measure from center of yolk hole to center of the differential flange yolk hole.

Use a large a tube on the driveshaft as possible...3" minimum, 4" better....and steel, not aluminum...

Its your truck, but I would ask that you talk direct with Technical at Inland empire and advise them the BB expected horsepower is 1000 and ask the simple question..."Will the 2 piece 502 kits survive in a 1000 HP environment?"

The details on the listing on the website says "More than 500 HP"...but that could mean 550 to 600...not 1000 as you indicate....

As an aside, I would be interested in the engine specs on the blown BBC...

Block, heads, cam, compression, intended fuel...fuel system and blower specs?

Also, what rear tires are on the truck?

Good luck...

Re: drive line suggestions

The motor is in the process, have it at my cousin’s machine shop this will be done a little bit at a time since I am blowing through money on the restoration. He picked some heads for me to choose from but have not looked at them yet. Since he is going through block now but once I get through more of the process I will post the specs, I know the last setup he did similar to what I wanted was making 1100

Re: drive line suggestions

I see no reason that the HD 2 piece driveshaft won't hold up to 1000hp if built accordingly. The problem with the hatred of 2pc driveshafts is far too many people are running the whimpy light duty driveshaft and the light duty carrier bearing that hangs from the top of the trailing arm crossmember. I wouldn't trust that driveline with more than 250hp. The HD driveshaft and carrier bearing is the same as is used in the C50/60 trucks.

Re: drive line suggestions

One of the products that I make is the HD carrier bearing mounting bracket that bolts to the trailing arm crossmember.
