Cool '81 Jimmy baggin'

So bought a '81 Jimmy this will be my first project that isn't a lift job. Was looking for some input on suspension. I was thinking a triangulated 4 link and some tubular "A" arms with drop spindles. As for bags and perches I have no idea, i've cruized all the online stores and after a while it just becomes a blur??? So anybody that has done a similar one on a modest buget your suggesions would be greatly appreiciated. As well I'm looking to get low, but not quite on the ground.

Porter Built has everything you need to do this job. Maybe someone will chime in with a link to his products.

Re: '81 Jimmy baggin'

Thanks KatFish. Took a look at their stuff, nice looking products, but very pricey. Don't know how different in quality they are but I found some "3 drop tubular "A" arms online for $350.00 as compared to over a thousand for porterbuilt ones.

Re: '81 Jimmy baggin'

All depends on how low you want it. What company made the control arms?

Well the control arms I found are sold through AVS most of their stuff looks pretty good, I don't know who the manufacturer is though.

Re: '81 Jimmy baggin'

I've got the interior stripped out, power washed off all the mold and other mung that was all over it, and I will start removing the motor and body next. I have a feeling this is going to be a fun project!

You are comparing "apples and oranges".
These are two different products.

3" drop pocket a-arms are old technology that will result a max drop of 3" using a stock spring.
You CAN NOT use these with drop spindles.
The a-arm pocket is too close to the ground.
These are the same thing as the old DJM drop pocket a-arms from 20 years ago.
All of the Porterbuilt products are top notch in quality.
I consider them the best in the business for 60-87 C10 pickups, burbs, and blazers.
Give Nate Porter a call.
He will talk to you in person about his products and drop options.
He also makes a "blazer specifc" parallel 4-link that will bolt in your blazer.
He can tell you the advantages of using a parallel 4-link over a "triangulated" 4-link in these blazers.

Give him a call or email.
Plus he's been a supporter of this site for many, many years.

Re: '81 Jimmy baggin'

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it a bit more when I get closer to that stage, and I decide exactly what I'm going to do with her.

Re: '81 Jimmy baggin'

Bought some of the KBS coatings product I saw used in Street Truck Magazine for repainting the frame, hopefully mine turns out as well as theirs.
