Question though, the inside of the engine bay and other areas are already painted, and the edge of that paint can be seen. How do you treat these areas when it comes to painting the outside of the car? Hopefully I get to that point soon.
The cooler lines have abiut 2 inches of clearance< should be good. as for the edges, i will scotch brite them, paint the,, then sand and polish them, never know there was an edge there.

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

Then came sat nite, i hooked up the bat and checked everything, bumped the engine over, checked for shorts, all good so far. I was at the frt of the car and smelt soomething, i looked up and SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!! CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! in nice words, i unkooked the bat and started poking around, yah, melted wires, I came in the house. So this morning I went out to the garage with a fresh mind and tore the dash and wiring apart, turns out the headlamp switch was shorting out inside and cooked my wiring, good thing i had a spare harness, spent a few hours and got her fixed and spliced, I was frustrated let me tell you that!!!

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

All is good in winter land now IT'S ALIVE!!!!

I had a friend come over and help me triple check everything, and we fired her up!!! we have to tune her yet a bunch, got a new distributor for her, thos one is not quite right, change a few things in the carb and we will be all good. but she runs and is heatly. Thanks to all that have helped so far. Cory for the engine, Curtis to help start it, Luke for being there, and especially my wife and daughter for being understanding.

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

Ok, it has been a very frustrating nite, I jsut came in to the house and have to go to work in 5.5 hours. The car does not want to idle right, tehre was a problem, we spent the nite playing with the entire engine, got a few things sorted out on her. Why does it always seem that when u want something so bad and to work right, it just cost more money!!!! Anyways i will explain all tomorrow. I just wanted everyone to know that in collaboration with Graham's one son, "the gearhead" aka: eastninemoto. the the name for the car now is officially :

BACK BURNER

LUKE I WANT YOU TO CHIME IN ON THE NAME, THAT WAY EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS, INCLUDING YOUR DAD WHO MAY BE READING THIS!! HEHE

Anyways there is reasons for this and it suits the car very well I think. Took awhile for this to come around but it did. Nite every one, gotta sleep.

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

Hey fellas, well Dad got this car pretty much 10yrs ago. It sat for a good 5 yrs and was taken to a guy to get new rear quaters. Well after it got back from there it sat a little longer! In the mean time James had come into the picture. Oh boy! Our families ended up going on a house boat trip together and I believe that is where the "brain storming" began. A year or so later the car was loaded up on a nasty cold winter day and headed to james. Dad told me later he just about made a detour to sell the car to a guy that had his eye on it! Thankfully that didn't happen! Anyways you guys pretty much know the rest. Providing for our family has always been dads main priority. In very thankful for this. He doesn't really seem to do thing for himself. Everything of interest to him seems to get pushed to the BACK BURNER! Now to make sure he drives this beauty! I don't think that will be a problem! Love ya Daddy O

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

Ok, here is a run down, I am Frustrated but the bugs are getting worked out,, first off, the carb is completely wrong, the whole thing is junk, I brought it to a well know engine builder that lives by me, he looks it over, laughs and says that thing is ancient, it won't run that car right, so he had one that would, second, it DOES NOT have a stall in it, so it want to die hen dropped into gear, loads the beast up too much, no slippage in her. Also she had restrictor plates in her for racing only, hmmm, not anymore. fourth, the fuel pressure is too high now, needs a regulator to drop the pressure down on her so the bowls do not overfill, the timing needs to be set but first we need her to idle. We had a vacuum port that did not work right. she only has 8 inches of vacuum in her at idle, hmm, need a small powervalve now!! There is a few other things, but hopefully by the weekend it wil be running right. It is hard to put a race engine on the street and behave right, but we will teach her the ways!!!!!!!!!!! so the carb is back to keith's, he is gonna perform a bit of majik, the trans is coming out tomorrow for the convertor, have to run a couple new fuel lines, not a big deal, all in all. she will behave like a well trained wife, Hard to handle at the best of times and we never understand them!! lol. kidding. She is gonna be good. Oh and btw she now has rear diff fluid in her. How about that Redneck canadian exhaust scavengers, hehe, dryer venting baby!!!! works eveytime!!

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

excellent, excellent! damn good thing there are engine tech and carb know it alls out there. cpl years ago at the track, couldnt get my car to idle properly, kept dying on the launch.... a dude came over all curious(really liked the car and wanted it to run) determined it was carb issues, pulled the carb off took it to his trailer, cleaned and rebuilt it with some parts in his trailer. 2 hrs later i ran an 11.67 and broke my last time of 11.76. beers were on me that night....... anyways thats my carb story haha.

glad to hear progress, she sounds nasty and i cant wait to see more! and dryer venting is a perfect multi-purpose tool!! haha

Keep It Up!

Re: 1969 Camaro "Yenko" Clone

If your vacuum is that low, and the engine has not really been run before, do a valve adjustment. This is almost exactly the symptoms I had on my jimmy. The valves were way too tight, which causes low vacuum and no low end power. I could get it to idle, but it would die as soon as it was put in gear. Do this before you do anything with the torque convertor.

I had adjusted them before it was installed in the truck, but I don't trust that method. If you have a lot of oil on the pushrod tips, the lifters will colapse some while you are tightening them down and you can continue to turn the push rod with your fingers. Even a half turn too much on a couple valves will create problems. Pull the valve cover, start the engine with a vacuum gage on it, loosen the rocker nut until it starts to clack, tighten until the clacking is gone, tighten another half turn. If you have to loosen the nut more than a full turn to here the clacking, it was too tight to begin with.

I may be an amateur body guy, but I know what I'm talking about on this.
