Longer spring mod without the 4inch lift?

I had a 73 K20 and a 71 K20 at the same time and the ride on the 73 was much nicer. Even though I have had several 4x4's Im not even close to an expert (but I know several that can help me out haha) I didn't realize at the time it was most likely the length of the springs that gave a superior ride.

Ive looked at the B52 kits and even emailed them a few times, but never get a reply.

Does anyone know from experience if you can do the longer spring mod without having a four inch lift? Id love the longer springs, but two and a half is as much as Id like to go if possible.

Not something that I suppose I need to do but Ive been accumulating parts and am getting close to deciding what to do with springs and axels. I think it would be a nice addition, just don't want four inches.

Re: Longer spring mod without the 4inch lift?

better to hit kirt ( diy4x ) up on the phone these days . he is so busy he dont post near as much as he use to even over on www.ck5.com his user name there is cybrfire .

his stuff is top notch in quality .

longer the spring the better the ride .
thinner the leafs the better the ride / flex . but requires more leafs for the same weight capacity .
anti squeak pads or Teflon liners between the leafs let them flex and move better . if your springs are real rusty in-between each other its like sandpaper trying to move .

OK thanks, good to know. I'm glad he's busy it means he's doing things right. Just weird to have a place to send inquiries and not answer them.

I will give him a shout.

Re: Longer spring mod without the 4inch lift?

Great quality parts, great ride. The '73 "heavy half" rear springs do a great job at smoothing out the ride. Need to be sure you have a front sway bar. A rear one as well if you're running the 63" springs in the rear.

My truck "might" have raised about 3/4" with the DIY B52 parts with the 6" shackles.

Fair bit of work to install but worth it in my case.

3/4 inch? Everything Ive read is the B52 is a four inch lift when all is said is done.

And is it different because your truck isn't a 67-72?

Re: Longer spring mod without the 4inch lift?

4"-5" lift when using stock 52" rear springs in the front .

otherwise the hanger is just a newer fancy more option hanger kit .

Doh! Good catch. You are absolutely right. The 60 - 66 were a little higher when stock. I was about to go on about how I pulled the stock grease pin springs and hangers off and then you reminded me that we have different years.

Don't mind my diversionary tactics. Carry on...

It is kinda fancy but real well built. It made it easy to center my wheels in the wheel wells, but yes, you guys are right,

4-5" lift on your year trucks.
