1986 Chevy K10 Rear Upper Shock Mount Frame Cracks

Hello,

I just bought my first Chevy truck, a 1986 K10 Silverado Shortbed, and I am currently in the process of getting it ready to be my daily driver. However, I noticed that the truck did not have rear shocks and upon further inspection discovered that the frame around the shock mounts was severely cracked on the passenger's side and on both sides the holes are widened out. I have some welding experience and access to a welder so I am wondering what the best way to go about fixing and reinforcing this is? Here are pictures of the new truck and the cracked side. I have removed the bed from the truck to make it easier to get to. The hole on the driver's side is only widened out, but the frame is not cracked around it. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you

The biggest thing to lead to this the shock is to heavy duty for your set up, shocks bolts get loose shock has more play the head bashes up and down mashing the hole in the frame working the hole bigger or cracking the frame in the long run. To fix this now and then check the shocks(all) mount bolts and re-tighten then if loose.
