I got out the 2 that were sticking out past the head, the 3 that are recessed about 1/4 into the head are the ones I am having trouble with now.. Also, no welding machine.

Small update.

Trans guy said my 4l60E was almost fubar. Said input shaft was so loose during teardown that it could have broke some **** if he didnt replace some parts. Said band had slipped at one point and worn a grove in something. Also that my planetary gears were messed up. Hes got new parts on order and my bill just jumped $200. Damn.

Also its delayed another week.

Seems odd since I drove it around plenty and never experienced any slipping or anything odd. I just wanted it rebuilt as a precaution. Makes me real worried about how the engine was ran.

Oh well we will just have to see.

Have you looked into a 4l80 trans? They are a lot tougher.

Yeah most definitely. I couldn't locate one for cheap. Also I already had the 4L60E from the donor plus I already had a shift kit and rebuild kit for it. I mean trans drove fine and never slipped. Oh well I guess, too late now.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare 07+ bumper laying around.

I did pick up trans today. He showed me the old parts and he wasn't kidding. They were screwed up... Cost $800 comes with 1 year warranty and built to withstand over 400 ft/lb. What he says anyways... To bad the little 4.8 will never see that much torque, however If I do ever get my hands on a spare 5.3, there is another story.

Started taking some parts off the truck.

Bed bolts are being a total pain in the rear.

Started taking bed off:

Apparently long bed is a lot heavier than short bed. Us 2 guys couldn't get it all the way off. Had to enlist the cherry picker.

Then this happened.

Cherry picker dug into the dirt and it slipped off.... Totally sad now.

End result.

Also got exhaust out from under the 01 donor. True duals with walker 17604s??? Didn't have any H pipe or xpipe. Reuse some or no?

Motivation in the CRAPPER now b/c I am an idiot and hurt my bed that had 0 rust or bondo.

Sorry to hear about your bed. You can purchase a new bed side though and put it back together, but I know how that feels. Keep at it, it will be worth it in the end when you get it all together.

Yeah, fortunately the bed will be the very last thing I put back on. So I got a while to get it worked out...

Yeah maybe it happened for a reason.. Always thought about converting to a short bed or step side.. However it being a single cab long bed is what makes it what she was. I dont know, on the fence about the whole deal.

Next is to get rad core support off and all and start pulling out the TBI & 700R4, then time to pull wiring.

I really wanted to pick up a 91 style headlight front clip for $300 but that money may now need to go into the bed.

Still pumped for LS though!!

Made a little progress this evening while wife and kid were asleep.

Got everything disconnected from rad core support (I think). All that is left is to drain rad/fluids. I am holding out on doing that for a bit so I can move truck around to wash off rear frame and what not.

Electric fans out:

Rad core support bolts need to be replaced.. Maybe all new body bushings all around:

Dang, sorry to see that about your bed. I just had a tree fall on my '90 454 SS while I was doing a cam swap so I feel you pain. Keep at it, it'll be that much more sweet when you're done.

y5 its my pride that is hurt... Plus it had all original sheetmetal... I feel so bad that I hurt it.

Updates: Got a little farther tonight. It is about time to pull out the drivetrain. Need a buyer for this low mile 92 tbi engine that was rebuilt .030 over w/ flat top pistons and vortec roller cam setup. The 700r4 too was rebuilt less than 5k miles ago with corvette servo and trans go shift kit.

Anyways:

So ready for the new setup!

Got to get the old out first and clean everything up!

Any recommendations for replacing all the body mounts? Polyeurethane or oem rubber? I need a kit that supplies new hardware.

Yeah I'm still going at it, found some motivation. Wearing me down though, only time I am able to get out there is after the wife and kid go to bed. Still worth it!

Got a little done tonight. Unhooked all wiring from engine/trans/tcase. Got exhaust all disconnected. Front driveshaft is unhooked as well. Really hoping to get it snatched out tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Picked up something I have always wanted today!!

Best part is I got all of those parts for only $80!!!

Been cleaning frame today and removing all the wiring, more updates to come tomorrow.

Still scratching my head on how to fit all of this into the old truck.

Also need to figure out exactly how I am going to do my fuel setup. Using 87 16 gal tank, unless I can find 20 gal. I need to get a higher flowing pump on order but first I need to figure out what sending unit/pump assy I am going to use that will work with the 01 gauge cluster. Plus how to mount pressure sensor and all the rest.

If you are using all the wiring and the gauges for the '01 why not use the fuel module from the '01 as well, already has the right pump and fuel level sender. I believe you can modify your current tank or a 20 gal to accept it with:
