All the plugs looked good. So, I just cleaned these old plugs and put them back in. They will be replaced once I get the engine up and running.

I got the motor in but ran into a problem. The new cross member interferes with the rivets that hold the bump stop brackets on. So, off they come.

Check Mcmaster-carr. They carry a lot of that kind of stuff. It probably won't be identical, but should be able to find something that will work.

Now you can see the holes where the rivets were, and the angle brackets can fit flush against the frame. Time to get out the drill and drill the holes for all four angle brackets, and get this cross member mounted.

Pulled my diff covers off to find the front diff ring gear has rust.

The stamping on the ring gear is 43-14. That's 43 teeth on the ring gear and 14 teeth on the pinion. If you do the math and divide 43 by 14, it comes out to 3.07
I was hoping for 3.73s. I'm not sure if i'll splurge for two sets of gears or not.
That's the joy of owning a 4x4, If you want to change your axle ratio, you have to do it on the front and rear diffs.

More cross member installation pictures. I was going OCD on this thing and it was driving me crazy getting it to the point where I was satisfied that it was in the proper position, so that I could drill the holes in the frame to mount it.

This cross member has been sitting inside my shop, out of the weather, for months before I installed it. It's already rusting! WTH? I'm seeing several places where it's starting. The paint looks very thin. I hate buying a high dollar piece like this and then have to spend time and money to paint it or powder coat it. I can imagine what this thing would look like if it were on a daily driver after 6 months. I guess that I will send it with the frame to the powder coater after I'm finished with mock up.

Nice blazer and good start on restoration

I've been slacking the last month or two on my Blazer, but the fish were biting. So I decided to take a break and enjoy some fishing before the dog days of summer set in. I stopped by the body shop and Phil laid some color on a few pieces. Looked good!

I also got a few miscellaneous pieces back from the powder coater.

I did get a few parts in. The tailgate I ordered from Scott @ The Filling Station. (Its a nice HEAVY reproduction tailgate) RnD Fabrications built me an LS swap radiator & electric fan set up. The new radiator support was from LMC. I will say that Scott at The Filling Station has the best service and prices, so I will order whatever I can from there.

I got in touch with a member on here that goes by the name "Fuel Cell Guy". Come to find out he only lives an hour from me and is a great guy. He said that he builds them on the side, and he hadn't built many lately, because he's been so busy with family and work. He also told me that he was ready to get busy building some more because that's what he uses for his hot rodding money. He has a 1972 2WD Blazer and seemed to know these fuel cells inside and out, so I thought I'd let him build me one. I got to see the fuel cell when he was building it. It had good baffles and extremely nice welds. He asked me what motor and gas gage that I was going to run, and he supplied the in tank pump and the 90 ohm sending unit. So I bought everything from him as a turn key unit. Also he pressure tests his tanks to 15 psi. The finished product is super clean and I didn't have to pay shipping since we lived so close.

Yes, that is a piece of 2x6 wood and an old life jacket between the tank and the floor jack.
The tank is so nice, I didn't want to scratch or dent it. Plus I have some "Redneck ways" to do things sometimes.

Also included with this tank were bolts, washers, lock nuts, and 2 pieces of flat steel "for extra support on the aluminum flange". It probably doesn't need it, but I like the idea of the extra support. I'll have the flat steel supports powder coated before final assembly.

They were from Lowe's. Rip off huh? That's what happens when you don't plan ahead LOL.
