Smith-Miller

Just wondering if anybody has any Smith-Miller trucks. I've been reading a lot about them lately and would love to find an "affordable" one (if there is such a thing). Just wondering if any of the older members had them as kids or still have some now. Here's a link to their site in case you've never heard of them: www.smittytoytrucks.com/

Re: Smith-Miller

I only have one cabover. I managed to get it cheap enough years ago. It's the straight truck that hauls barrels. The sides are aluminum with openings in the middle. Not a real attractive body compared to others. I may end up building a custom with it,like a wrecker or just a flatbed.

Re: Smith-Miller

I've been checking ebay but most are in the $200-300 range and up. I keep hoping I will stumble across one in some random junk shop but I'm not holding my breath

Re: Smith-Miller

That's where I found mine. By now any antique dealer knows these old toys are highly collectible. Usually their ignorance goes against the buyer. They think just because they heard what mint examples go for that any one in any condition is worth it's weight in gold. This was about the only one I ever saw and thought,"Really? That's all?" I think I paid $60.

Re: Smith-Miller

I searched for a B Mack Smith Miller for a number of years to go along with my Giant Gila Monster diorama. In the 1959 film, a laughably unrealistic horror scene clearly shows a Smith Miller B Mack being pulled over with strings and set on fire, supposedly killing Mr. Compton. The toy truck in the movie had a sleeper box added along with a poorly assembled single axle tanker trailer that looked ridiculous.

I wanted to replicate the scene in miniature, but the collectibles are too expensive to buy for a wreck diorama, and poor condition examples suitable for a wreck scene either didn’t have enough usable parts, or were also too expensive. Eventually I gave up and moved on to less expensive adventures.
