Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

Found this guy on the Internet, gave him a call and ordered a 67 SWB ($35) for my 68 K-10 model that i'm gonna do. He has crewcabs too! Only charges $6 for shipping and is in PA. He said that the short bed is tubbed but that's ok to me...

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

That`s a cool resource.I knew there were people making custom resin castings. There`s a member here who does it.He`s been in the diecast sticky and showed some of his work.

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

Maybe I can afford to finish the model since my truck will drag out for another few years!

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

Cool site!

How do you put together a resin model? I have put together already painted diecast ones, but I have no idea about the resin ones. Anybody have a link?

There are a few GMC models out there... I have a tow truck one that i'll sell you... It's put together (not by me) and would have the grille that you need.

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

These are called "phantoms" or conversions. You buy existing kits for donors to build what could have been but never was offered. In more recent issue kits by AMT there`s a long Chevy Fleetside and a short GMC Fenderside. There are phantom GMC Wideside tailgates to use on the Chevy Fleetside bed and Chevy Stepside tailgates made to use on GMC Fenderside beds. So,you can build a Chevy or GMC long wide bed or short narrow bed. That`s where the phantom short wide bed comes in.The grilles are interchangable and all these are 69-72 style. There are vintage kits for 67/68 and yes, phantom casts are made.If all this seems too complicated you can always just get a real truck and swap parts. But,those teeny paint jars will drive you crazy.........

That really sucked when that happened too... there went my cheap supply for kits and paint. The hobbytownUSA closed here last month, all that's left that I know of, other than EBAY and the 'net is Hobby Lobby, and the majority of their kits are $15-$16+

I'd like to see a pic of the 67 w/ 6' bed kit, I'd like to see the quality of the kit before I spend $41...

Yeah the last time I went in to Michaels they had cut their stock down to about a third of what they had, plus it was a bunch of pre-painted junk, no selection at all.....bummer.

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

Michaels in my area have a fair selection of kits, but the prices have went through the roof. They are asking $18 & up for a regular AMT kit. Also the A.C. Moore craft stores carry model kits. They're prices are lower.

With the resin kits, keep in mine that most of the time they come with pin holes in the casting. That can be a real pain to repair. Always ask the maker if the casting is clean & straight.

Got the rest of them fixed, except one of my posts and maybe one of yours could use some tweeking.Happy New Year!

I know no one will like looking at this mess.I just set the body on the rame for kicks. The frame is from a`78 Stepside kit by Monogram. They were my least favorite company and just had to use the goofy 1/24th scale when all the good companies made 1/25:

That box it`s sitting on is the latest version of a shortbed out there and it was form 20 years ago. But,resin guys are making short frames.

Nice! I wanna get that 73-79 crew cab. Then find a nice 1/25 RC car or truck to cannibalize and put that body on it.

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

I got my model today...

very nice piece, no steering wheel but that's not that big of a deal I guess...

I kinda wanted a regular hood but didn't ask I guess, the bed is tubbed a little but this is the only 6ft bed that i've found out there...

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

Wow, it even has the 67/68 trim. It looks to be well done (except the stupid frame which has ALWAYS sucked on EVERY kit I've ever seen for these trucks!)

Thanks for the PM

I'll be buying one of these babys soon!

Edit: Does it come with window glass?

And... it kinda sucks it's a big window, but that's OK!

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

yep, it has buddy buckets (middle seat is too skinny), trim and a "custom" label under the window...

I'll be placing it on a blazer frame to get a K-10 like mine.

Re: Resin Models - found someone making our trucks

no glass, wheels or steering wheel (I have an email to him on that), The floor is smooth unlike the other bed I found online...

you have to purchase a basic 72 model for all the other pieces...
