Re: the coating store

They have a TON of pics on their facebook page. They are also over on the autobodystore forum. You might want to ask over there. I like their blues and greens and might try them (probably years from now when I am ready for paint...).

Jim on here stands by Omni which is a budget brand.

I heard good things about Kirker which is another budget brand. I bought their epoxy primer but haven't gotten around to using it yet.

Re: the coating store

The labels look like Kirker brand paints and Urekem is the manufacturer in a really small plant. I would put them in with U Pol's type of products, cheap but unknown for lasting in any weather.

Re: the coating store

I first heard about them on Autobodystore forum. There is a long post about them on that site; they are also recommended by Autobodystore and are said to be comparable to Glasurit. In the thread at that forum, a person from The Coating Store talks about some durability testing that they are performing to compare their products to some of the majors. I am waiting to see that. I have not used any of their products yet but really want to try them out. I will say this, I took a gamble with SPI (no one around me in the body shop business has heard about them) with their epoxy and 2K primers and have not been let down. I still may use their clear but if I can find another vendor that has color and clear that will hold up, I will use their system. I think there are good, lower price alternatives to the majors but finding out how long they last is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I heard that Eastwood was relabeled Kirker but don't know if that is true.

I have heard great things about SPI as long is you aren't using any metal conditioners. There is a huge thread over at Hot Rodders about epoxies and ospho.
