S-10 BLAZER ON BOSS 338's

01] So this 86 S-10 came in the shop today. It's nothing crazy stock 350 CID crate engine with 8-1compression. With a turbo 350 backing it up. This Blazer has some miles on it. Both engine mounts, chassis mounts, and transmission mount were broken so the engine was just laying on the center link. The upper control arm mount on both sides were cracked as well as some cracks in the chassis. The drive shaft was hitting the floor by the rear U-joint. That means I have a bunch of work to do. So I have decided to do the engine mounts first. Nothing crazy just fix the mounts. So I ordered some Prothane engine and transmission mounts.

Now comes the fun stuff Boss 338s' 20X10 for the rear with 18X8 up front. I'll make some new control arms for the front after I do the rear suspension. After removing the Stock rear end I mocked up the wheel and tire combo.

The tubing that I'm going to use on the truck for the rails is 2x3x.120 wall . I didn't make the rails as long as I normally do. This will make by bars shorter than I like but I'll make it work.
I decided to go with a triangulated 4-Bar. This was I don't have to use a locator on the rear. The top bars are shorter than I like, but that's ok. They are still longer that a factory full size car from the 70's.

Re: S-10 BLAZER ON BOSS 338's

02] I decided to get rid the stock rear end, for one simple reason I'm not going to do all of this work for the stock rear end. So a 9" Ford is the way for me. I put the 20's under the Blazer and got my measurement. I wanted a little bit extra on the rear so I decided on this back brace and installed a drain plus and fill point.

The back brace is made from a roll cage that I had to cut out of a fox body mustang. The bar was all screwed up. now it is a brace.

Once I got the housing all welded up I called up Moser and ordered my axles. Now it is time to start my rails. I'm using 2 x 3 x .120 wall tubing

now the rails are done I built my bars

Re: S-10 BLAZER ON BOSS 338's

03] Now it is time to build my bars. I like prothane bushings I just buy some of the generic bushing. I use grade 8 .75 bolts and make the rod ends.

This is my fixture for my bars.

The front upper brackets are 2 x2 tubing that I welded some flat stock on to thicken up. then drilled a .50 hole in.

The bottom bars are an old 4-Link bracket that I cut up. so are the front.

Now I'll start putting it all in.

Re: S-10 BLAZER ON BOSS 338's

04] This is something I should have put in the very first post. I took one of the Tranny crossmembers that I had around the shop and put it up front. I saw a lot of flex in the front so I decided to make it tighter. This tubing is 1.75 X .120 D.O.M The bends were off so it doesn't lay flat. It won't be seen when the front end is on so it will be fine. I know some of these pictures are from another post. I just wanted to explain things a little better.

I put a gusset at each end just to be safe.

I made my top bars out of 1x.156 D.O.M This way all I have to do it tap the bar with my .75 x16". No need to bore the hole the tap just needs to be straight.

You can see in this picture I welded the bar. The bigger bar is 1.25 x .120 wall D.O.M I only needed two of the small bushings for the 2 X 2. So the other end is the big bushing I use. The one Inch slides right into the inch and a quarter. A couple of holes to rosette and weld top bars are done.

I set them at 27 degrees and made some brackets for the rear.

The lower bar brackets are old 4-Link. I cut up to fit on a piece of 2 X 2 I set my Bracket distance [ Inside bracket! to the frame ]1.5 from the frame

Now it is time to do all of the bottom welding so I can put in the stock gas tank.

Nice fab work! I just picked up a 99 Xtreme S10 with a Corvette LS1. Sweet little project, but I'm not sure if I want to build it or sell it, LOL.
