Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

i just started the project 2 months ago and im basicly taking a k5 blazer and parting it for the jimmy. i have the whole front end off and i just mounted bothe driver and passenger side doors. i did a crappy photoshop job of what it should look like when done (the white should be metallic silver it didnt work right)

I really like the stance of your truck. Should look really good when it is back together.

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

borrowed a trailer and loaded up the truck to go to the body guy only to find out that he is a jackass and doesnt want to work on an apparent P.O.S. so that went well. :-/. bored when i got home so i screwed around a bit with our seasonly gravel pile for our driveway. btw got the new hood mounted hasnt been aligned yet. looks like i am gonna be tackling all the body work myself with a mig welder.

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

also i havent given you guys a background story yet on why im repairing this certain vehicle. MY dad owned it as a second owner from 1981 and on. he did the lift crate motor, driveshat extension, tires, and also replaced all major brake, steering, and driveline components. still on the orginial tranny and transfercase. i then proceded, while working on the truck at votech and showing off to some friends, to blow up the rear end. i then installed a new eaton posi and matching 4:10 richmond gear sets front and rear. all the body work you see in these pics i have completed myself and am learning alot along the way. always wanted to have the truck since i was little and hopefully in the next few months it will finally be back on the road.

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

You will want a tub from 78-91. The floor is different from 73-77. What was bad on the Blazer you pulled the other sheetmetal off of?

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

the floor was literally not there it was too the point where there are soccerball size rot rust holes in the floor boards and half the body mounts are rusted away but the prevous owner i got it from replaced all the exterior panels which are what i am using...... i still want a tub between 73-79 because i have the resources to be able to convert the rear part of the floors to the 78-79 style plus a full convertable from 73-75 would be pretty sweet.

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

if you do the tub swap you sould go with a 73-75 .......... it would be a good time to go full convertable

Re: my 78 4x4 jimmy build

decided i am stickin with the body i have now. went to englishtown swap meet today got some front floor pans, L and R rockers, and front body mount supports. also picked up a set of gm rally wheels in decent condition for $100. .......... saw a hurst t-handle shift knob with transbrake button on side and got an idea. my old blazer was stick like this one and with the headlight high beam switch being on the floor i would always blind passerby's when shifting because i am not able to hit the switch when my left foot is on the clutch, so i came up with the idea today to try and wire in the high beams switch to the button on the t-handle. anyone know if this would work?
also took cap off truck and removed rear tank, bumper, and trailer hitch to get to rear body mounts.
