What’s a good HEI for a big block not looking to spend a fortune but don’t want cheap junk. I was looking at this

Have you considered an HEI that somebody has pulled from a Chevy truck? I have a used one and it is great, hasn't given me a hint of problems. You could just post a want to buy ad in the parts section and see who says what. Perhaps on the 73-87 parts board. I've got too much Chinese junk for my truck already, so when it comes to something I can get from other folks here on the board I go for it.

I run the msd street fire. By the time you rebuild a junk yard version you can buy a brand new one cheaper.

If you by a quality aftermarket or a factory unit plan on having it curved on a distributor machine for good results after installation.
Don't waste your money and time on a cheap unit. The low price comes from undersized bearings, no heat treating, a poorly designed advance mechanism and so on and so forth. But they will make it nice and shiny.

Look on ebay, 75.00 for a new complete gm style hei. Or go to skip whites web site. 250.00 is redickulous................

I just finished installing an HEI distributor in my 68 C20 with a 396. Started with a used GM HEI and installed the Petronix Flamethrower (Multi Spark) tune up kit in it.

DUI is a Great HEI unit. If you call them directly you can get a custom calibration on the spring and weights with an adjustable vac adv.
