4x4 filter adapter???

Picked up my truck from the transmission shop today & he said that if I wanted he'd take off the 4x4 oil adapter and install a stock unit. My question is it really a 4x4 oil adapter and what are the advantages if any in running that style? Thanks

Re: 4x4 filter adapter???

I may be wrong , but i sont think the 67-72 trucks had or wven needed an oil filter adapter. I had a 93 gmc k2500 with one, but it was needed sue to the driver side drop t case/ front diff. Is your engine out of a later truck?

Yes, sorry forgot to post that my motor is out of a newer truck with center mount heads.. I'm just wondering if there is any benefit to leaving this part in the truck

None at all. You can replace it with a straight adapter and run a bigger filter. It was only needed to clear the front diff on newer trucks
