k 30 wheels

I am having tire to pitman arm interference on my 1985 k 30 . I am running 16 x 8 Alcoa wheels with 4.5 in backspacing. When i turn to the left , my Toyo mud terrains rub on the pitman arm . What wheels are you guys using ? My tire size is 305 /70/16.

Re: k 30 wheels

need way more info . even pics maybe .

front axle ?
4wd steering box or 2wd for crossover ?
pitman arm on box ? or steering arm on axle ? lots of people mix these up .
drop pitman arm or raised steering arm like a dodge arm ?

i use to run hummer h2 17" rims with 5" backspace and the 35x12.50x17 tires and had no problems on my k30 with dana 60 front and 2.5" drop pitman arm .

something is funky in your setup . or that specific tire is just that wide . and the 305/70/16 is just a fat 33" tire .

Re: k 30 wheels

Thanks . I have pretty much stock k 30. A 2 1/2 inch skyjacker lift on the front. Then tires are rubbing on the 2 in dropped pitman arm that is on a stock steering box . The side treads on these tires are really aggresive. That might be the problem.

Re: k 30 wheels

o.k.

step 1 you prob dont need the drop pitman arm for a 2inch lift kit . there has been lots of debate on this over the years and stephen from offroad design did a huge info post on ck5.com about this .

you WANT some down slope from the pitman arm down to the axle steering arm . if its level or nose low this will create some problems.

and #2 as you said the HEAVY side lugs can play hell on some combos of vehicle . see it a lot over the years . if its just a little bit of kiss then keep a eye on it at full turn's . if its a lot then it might be time for a wheel spacer . but make sure you have good lugnut thread engagement after install of a spacer .

nice to see a semi local guy . 250 miles west of me and a tad south .

You should have got 285/75/16, same height if not taller

Re: k 30 wheels

the 285 is tall skinny of the 33"
the 305 is fat brother of the 33"

Not tall and skinny
Good, correct proportion

305/70s are overly too wide for the size and look wrong on 8" wide rims

Approved rim width on the 305/70/16 is 8.0-9.5

Approved rim width on the 285/75/16 is 7.5-9.0

Some people like the biggest looking tire possible.

I run 285/75/16 on factory 16x6.5 wheels. They look great and don't wear funny.

Re: k 30 wheels

i am doing the 255/85/16 on stock 16" steels my self with hub caps .

rear was a tad tall yet . i took about 2" out of the rear height . and no driveline in it yet for weight . 3" front lift and with 2.5" flip kit rear .
