Unfortunately I dont have any pics of the GTO as it didnt stay around very long ,it was a 74 which most didnt like .I wanted to put a 455 in it and make a real hot rod of it but sold it before I could make it happen . I do still know where it is but he wont sell it as cheap as he bought it ($250) .

Thanks, john. He's looking at a black one that is in Marietta. Apparently he has all the docs and original invoice, title, etc in his name.

Absolutely! We'll be tearing up the roads in that thing so we'll be up your way I'm sure of it.

Thanks! It's still got some rust issues here and there but is definitely much more solid.

I've got everything to get the motor in but I've decided to build my 700r4 so we're waiting on it before we put everything in. Progress should really pick up after the first of the year!

Re: 1971 GMC SWB "No Direction" LS build

Dropped off the 700r4 to be built yesterday and got a set of OEM 15" truck rallys to go on for the time being. Should have the drivetrain in and firing pretty soon. Have a few more bolts to buy but we're getting there.

On another note, I'm really torn on wheel choice. As of today, I'm thinking i might go with the gray AR Salt Flats. I really want a set of 20/22 Budnik Knife's but $3k is a little hard for me to swallow when i need to be looking at suspension and paint.

As far as paint goes (at least today), I'm thinking hugger orange with a cream top and lower black molding. Paint is likely a year away but I'm hoping to get my wheel situation and suspension figured out by the end of March (bonus time!!!!).

Anyway, I'm open to thoughts and wheel suggestions. I've considered all the traditional TT style cast wheels (i.e. Coys, Rdiler, Showwheels, etc) but I'm leaning toward something a little different. Bring on your suggestions!

Plans sound good. Here's an orangish and white stepper for sale here locally that might give you some ideas. I've already been told I can't have it.

Robbie, When I read this post I laughed... You sound as bad as me! I change my mind on what color I am going to paint my 71 on an hourly basis (I better figure it out quick since it's heading to paint in a couple weeks). Then when it comes to wheels for my Suburban, I am just as bad about making up my mind. I really like Intro wheels, especially the Holbrooks with a grey center but there is that whole $3k price again. Then there is the opinion part... I think the orange and white combo is one of my favorites on these trucks so you got my vote for the paint. For the wheels, I have two opinions, first off you should get what you want, it sounds simple but I have bought cheaper wheels before to save some $$$ but I always wished I would of bought the ones I wanted. Secondly, I am all about American made so that would be the other consideration, for me at least.

Soo......

Exactly, Jason! Hence the name "No Direction." I knew I would have a hard time making decisions on this one and would let certain circumstances dictate the direction (i.e. parts availability, price, etc). Should be a fun ride but I'm nowhere near paint so at least I don't have to address that now.

I've read that AR wheels are made overseas. Is that the case?

Re: 1971 GMC SWB "No Direction" LS build

I should be getting my 700r4 trans back from rebuild Tuesday and have been ordering a ton of miscellaneous hard parts, etc for the motor install.

Recently, I've purchased a lockout kit from Monster Transmission in FL, starter and alternator bolts from GM Parts Direct and a litany of stuff from Summit including but not limited to:

Exhaust manifold bolts
MSD Street Fire Plug Wires
AC Delco Spark Plugs
ARP Torque Converter bolts
ARP Bellhousing bolts
Autometer Metric Oil Pressure Adapter (for adapting a mechanical oil pressure gauge)
Carter Electric Fuel Pump w/ internal regulator
Russell Inline Fuel Filter
Lug nuts for the rally wheels
Earl AN to Metric adapter fitting for power steering
Russell Braided Stainless Power Steering hose kit

Still need to shorten driveshaft and get everything I need to run power steering with the LS. After that, we'll be looking at exhaust and switching over to power brakes (still not sure if I'm going to leave the rear drums or go to disc). then suspension. then wheels/tires. then body/paint and interior (prob next year).

But let's not get ahead of ourselves....let's just hope to have an engine that fires in the next week or two.

Wow moving right along! sweet.

Way ahead of me. With it being 5 degrees I'm in the house until it warms up a bit. Too expensive to heat the garage when its this cold.

Progress, progress.

And it's cold here but I've been just sitting behind a computer ordering parts the last few weeks. Once the tranny gets back, the real progress begins. Thankfully, a good friend and board member is taking the lead on that. I'll post up pics when we start the swap.

If we can ever get the trans back we'll be cooking with gas...well, fuel.

Hope to have some progress pics this weekend.
