They weren't to bad were they.

I put new ones in and it changed the truck totally. The clutch even actuates better!! Man I love my blazer.

I had a mount like that, ended up breaking. When I came off of a stoplight my engine torqued and the fan cut my shroud. Glad you got them replaced before anything bad happened.

Same reason I had to get a new shroud a couple weeks ago-- and mine didn't look nearly that bad.

that's the whole reason I put a nice chrome chain on the driver's side of the engine. Eliminates all movement of the engine. Better response and it even looks cool.

My Italian shop teacher uses J.B weld and brakleen for everything. He even used brakleen for a fire extinguisher! Its funny because he looks exactly like Mario on super mario bro's
why dont u use solid motor mounts?

Hell, the JB weld might work......if you wrap em with 100 mph tape(duct tape) for extra safety

I recall back in the 60's when GM had a recall on motor mounts with their V-8's. They fixed the problem by adding a chain. What got them in trouble was the accelerator linkage would get stuck on the plug wire loom. And, yes, I've seen worse. Bare metal to metal.

I think the recall on these trucks in particular was in '72...

I kinda lucked out on mine. I think it was switching from a 3-speed stick to a (over!)built THM400 that did the original mounts in; all mine would do, though, was just shift itself from Drive to Neutral. New mounts cleared that right up. The recall-spec fix was just to chain it down.

The problem is, they really didn't do anything to the mount to make it stay in one piece once the rubber disintigrated...

Some dealers used a cable instead of a chain...wrapped it around the Dvrs exhaust amnifold, and down to the upper A arm on the drivers side. This is also why they went to the throttle cable instead of the rod on the 70 and older.
This was in the glove box of my first longhorn along wiotht e protecto-plate and owners manual and the window sticker...ect.

You can't really tell by this picture, but the mounts holding in the Pontiac on the one ton were almost that bad. The rubber just fell out of the clam shell, and the clam was broken too.

sounds familiar.. my pasenger side motor mount was so dead it'd collapsed and couldn't be unbolted from the engine while the thing was in the truck.. fortunatley.. we had an engine lift and with alittle elbow grease, we tore the motor mount in half lol

I'll DEFINATLEY be getting me a nice set of poly mounts when the engines ready to go back in.
