leaf spring options (rear)

What are some good donor vehicles for rear leaf springs for AD trucks?

I mean as far as "bolt in, no mods" application.
I thought i read somewhere that S10 springs would work?

If I can get away with a "bolt in" then i'm gonna go that route, if major mods are needed i'm gonna go ahead and build a 4-link.

THanks,
Chris

Re: leaf spring options (rear)

This is a similar kit that I installed on my project truck. This allowed me to replace everything in the rear suspension and also give me a 3 inch drop. This was a simple bolt in place replacement that I would do again in a heart beat.

If you're considering leaf springs, why not the stock ones? To lower, its a simple matter of lowering blocks.

Re: leaf spring options (rear)

First off sorry the link above did not work. Go to their main site and use their search feature and enter 432-4610-00.

This kit changed the shock placement and gave all new hardware from the frame down which is what I wanted and needed. I looked at just leaf springs from Standens in Calgary and the cost was close to what this whole kit was going for. For a few extra dollars I got shocks, mounting hardware, everything needed to make the whole setup ready to hang my Ford 9" on.

Re: leaf spring options (rear)

I've never read that S10 springs will interchange. I would think you'd want all of the mounting hardware. I'm picking KB-454 up tomorrow but I've never used these before either!

The best riding spring is from a Crysler 5th ave wagon. You have to do some work to make them work, but it is worth it. I buy them from JCWitney when
they have free shipping.

A: cause my stock ones are crap
B: cause my stock ones aren't stock. the PO put SOME springs in, but they locate the rear end abt 2-3" forward in the wheel well.

actually i was told that my a local builder that mainly deals in AD trucks, but i'm sure he meant all mounting hardware as well.

Never heard of that company. everything on there seems a bit expensive.
not knocking you, just an observation.

i may just stick with the plan (which will take longer do to $$$$) and run a 4-link and bags. before spending that kind of cash on a kit.

TCI stuff is definatley good stuff. but i'm mainly looking for some "junk yard solution" before spending big. if i'm gonna buy a kit, i'll wait longer and set up for 4-link and bags.

thanks for the reply tho!

Re: leaf spring options (rear)

http://www.kimbridgeent.com/194755chevypickup.htm .....these guys supplied the parts to RB's Obsolete & also built their project trucks using their bolt-on suspension parts. RB's is now defunct......

STOCK springs have the pin mounted too far forward so you may HAVE stock springs. If you look in all the truck parts mags, they talk about the rear axle kits have a locator tab. If you look at a stocker, the rear wheels are all too far forward.

KB's is expensive but it has all the hardware. And I'm buying mine "NOS" from a guy who bought them and then passed away before he could install on his truck so I'm getting a better rate. Good for me but bad for him.

I've heard about the Chrysler minivan springs vaguely now that it has been mentioned, I'd like to know what changes are necessary.

No sweat. I'm digging this kit I picked up today, though. Found all the parts AND the instructions.
