Changing TH350 Dipstick.
This is probably a really stupid question but how hard is it to change a dipstick on a th350? I've opened the hood 6 times or so since I started driving my truck again and everytime the dipstick has been sticking out of the tube. I want to get a locking dipstick so that doesn't keep happening. Do the dipsticks simply "pop out" of the trans or will I need to drop the pan or something?
Thanks, Michael.

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
If your vent is blocked, a locking dipstick will make it leak somewhere else.
However, to answer your original question, it's really simple. It's held in by a bracket under one of the bellhousing bolts on the passenger side. The only connection to the transmission is an o-ring about an inch from the end of the tube. Make sure you put a little transmission fluid on the o-ring before you install the tube so it doesn't bind. |

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
Get up under the truck and near the top of the case on the driver side you will find a tube (hopefully) if not there will be a hole with some kind of crud in it. You need to get the vent open first and foremost. The dipstick isnt your issue. Heres a picture of where the vent is. http://www.google.com/search?q=th350...31%3B600%3B450

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
Hmm, this isn't good news to me. Transmission is brand new for the new engine. Is it common for new vent tubes to be installed wrong on new transmissions or something? I might just drive it down to the tranny shop and see what they can do.

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
A lot of TH350's don't use an actual tube, They use a "push-in" breather, Still available from the dealer/ACdelco

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
I looked back over some pictures I had of the install and that's what mine has....maybe the cap got stuck closed or something? I'll have to check it out and if I can't figure it out I'll just take it down to the shop.

Re: Changing TH350 Dipstick.
If the shop removed it and plugged the hole... find a different shop.
