Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

The '79 Dodge I bought last year exceeded expectations from an originality, completeness, and lack of rust standpoint. I needs a little tuning, but beyond that was well taken care of and the PO had a lot of recent receipts getting maintenance completed at a shop.

The paint is absolutely shot and this truck really deserves a full repaint but I don't see that happening with me any time soon. I like the original color so I decided to get the rims blasted and then painted them in the factory metallic color and will run them with dog dishes I found online.

My barn that I store this truck in is about 35 minutes from where I live. Dodge used at least 3 metallic blue colors in '79. I thought I knew the paint code so ordered up the paint I needed, painted the rims, got some new 32's installed and hauled the tires out to the barn this afternoon as I was swapping out trucks. I got the paint code wrong....ugh. Just ordered more paint tonight.

Great truck and thanks for providing the detailed back story and progress. I honestly think the paint/patina looks great, maybe try a little linseed oil on it? and nice choice on your wheel/tire/dogdish choices and direction - it really completes the truck - well done!

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

Thank you! I don't hate it just wish there were a little more blue left on it. The driver's side has even less paint on it. It was pretty dry when I bought it so I used Penetrol on it. I've used boiled linseed on trucks also with good results but tried Penetrol on this one and I like how it's holding up. Now I just need to wait on the paint and find the time to spray the rims.
