Thanks Rob, the tank is a plastic blazer tank with an external Carter 2000 (I believe) fuel pump. I was too cheap (broke) to get a nice stainless tank but this one works. The harness is one from Painless, I had recently converted a TPI for my 327 and did all the wiring conversion myself after that I was in a time crunch so I just bought one but will probably convert the original one. The harness worked very slick and went together very slick.
Alen Nelson at http://www.nelsonperformance.com/ did the reprograming and did an excelent job he can really make the gen3 (ls1) motors run I may have him do my Tahoe.

The interier is still in progress I have an original 67-68 buddy bucket seat in but needs to be recovered and havent gotten my door panels on ... Still looking for a sponser
Thanks again
Dave

Looks great!!!

How much did the engine and tranny set you back? How many miles on the motor? ( I am doing a poll at LS1Tech.com) Trying to get an idea if I will be getting a deal or not when I go to buy mine.

Everything is looking good there Custom. Did you do the swap yourself or did you have it done somewhere? I'm tossing around the idea of putting the newer 5.3 and 4L60E in my 71'.

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3

Thanks guys, I answered the poll on tech but I paid 1500 complete I mean complete down to the fuses and tranny. it had 20,000 miles on it. I wanted a 6.0 but the 5.3 is what they had. Mine had been sitting for a while in a yard (inside) I bet the prices are going up since they are becoming more popular.
I did the entire swap myself, I had a buddy there for support and some of the needed muscle. I built the stands myself and came off the front cross member I used some jeep motor mounts on the blocks and some "solid" mounts on the engine block.
I did however buy the "plug and Play " harness from painless after modifying one for a TPI I was ready to get this thing on the road.
I did the body, suspension and engine work in one swoop so as you can imagine it took a while this is just a "hobby" for me like most of us on here.

Oh Frizzle I will have to look at the name brand of the air filter it was a kit my wife and son got it is for a 2002 Silverado, I did cut the rad support to get true cold air.
Thanks again
Dave

Looks really good. I am glad to hear that you like your Nelson tune. He did mine. I ran into a small snag, my injectors are not working. I have pulse. Am now waiting for them to come in.

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3

My injectors did the same thing, I just raised the fuel rail up and while my 7 year old son cranked on it I tapped on them till they shot fuel. I ran some seafoam through it then and have been good ever since. I think it is common after they sit for a while and the injectors stick.
Allen at Nelson may not be the cheapest but he probably is the best, he will stand behind what he does and can make changes if and when the need arrises. He is a good guy.

Is that a truck motor? I thought they didn't come with an alum. block until 04. Those were 310 hp and only came on LT ex cabs. They also put an alum 5.3 in the SSR. Maybe i'm wrong. Do you have a GM number so i can look it up? The vin of the vehicle it came out of would be helpful too. I'm interested in buyin it. What is included.

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3

Does the painless harness also include tranmission harness? What about the speed sensor how does this work? What does your instrument cluster look like, and how does it work?

I am amazed sorry for all the questions.

Great work.

Re: a few pictures of my 68 with gen III 5.3

That is a sweet looking truck and motor. I wouldn't mind having one of those newer 5.3s for mine if I could afford it. I use to work on a GM/Toyota car lot and got to drive around some of the newer GMCs with the 5.3s and they hauled butt. I couldn't help but floor it everytime I drove one of those.
