Sat pics (12-28) My year in review!

Hey guys! It's the last Saturday of the year and I wanted to go through my old posts and pic out my favorite one from each batch of "Sat pics". I'm having a bit of trouble getting the search function to cooperate with me tonight but I'm doing the best I can with it. If any of you have any saved that you like better than the ones I'm posting...add em in here for everyone else to see! I'm having trouble pulling some of the old posts up but I'll post a date with the ones I can find.

Re: Sat pics (12-28) My year in review!

I enjoy looking at your pics every week. My personal favorites are always of your 4x4. I just love that truck! It's my favorite one on this site! I really enjoy the car show pics to see what you guys down south are working on. Next, I like the junkyard pics of old rusty Detroit iron. You have posted pics of vehicles that I haven't seen around here in a long time because they've been crushed! Seeing a Corvair van after many years was really cool!

I also really enjoyed the ones that you posted this fall of your red truck sitting on that paved lane with the tall trees on either side with the big white house at the end. Those pics make me really want to come back down south to visit again! The scenery down there is absolutely beautiful! Keep the pics coming in 2009. All of us enjoy seeing them! ...Joe

Re: Sat pics (12-28) My year in review!

Thanks guys! I'm going to keep doing my best to bring you guys something new every week for as long as I can. So far I've only missed one weekend in the past 14 months. Your feedback is what keeps me going. I'd probably just be keeping these to myself if I never got any responses to them.

Christy has been driving the hound out of the 54 since we brought it back home. Of course we're still working the bugs out of it at this point. We still have no heat/defrost or wipers on the car so this little warm spell we're having is a godsend! I had an appointment to have the exhaust done on it the Monday before Christmas. The guy doing it is good...good enough that he doesn't have a sign on his building, he doesn't advertise, he's not in the phone book and you still have to make an appointment due to the amount of work he has. Well that morning rolls around and I wake up to a chilly 14degrees. Remember, we have no heat in this car. Christy begged me to call and cancel the appointment...that wasn't happening. With a little help from Brian I pulled off what could possibly be one of the most redneck things I've ever done in my life.....

Yep...That's a propane heater strapped to my tripod with some bungee cords! It made enough heat for the trip to be bearable...but I still had ice on the INSIDE of the glass on the way up there.

Good show Asa. Love the redneck heater. Keep up the great work and I'll see you at Bryan's in the spring or Maggie valley.

Re: Sat pics (12-28) My year in review!

I love redneck ingenuity! We can figure out ways to Git 'Er Done when we have to! Years ago I helped one of my high school buddies out when he was in college convert his 71 Plymouth Duster from an automatic trans to a 4-speed manual.

While we were at it, we decided to cut out the rust in the floorboards and make some patch panels. Well,he was just itching to drive it with the 4-speed after we put it in, holes in the floor and firewall or not, and since we had pulled the heater core out to replace it since it was bad, it left quite a hole for cold air to come in through.

It was 20 below zero outside, so we just covered the floor holes the best we could, bolted the driver seat back in, and I ended up sitting on the floor on the passenger side with my feet holding a piece of sheetmetal over the hole where the heater core was supposed to be to try to keep the cold air out!

We both had insulated coveralls on but with him driving at speeds up to 100 m.p.h. on the maiden voyage, we both still about froze our a$$es off! It was quite a chore trying to keep that piece of sheetmetal over the hole with him driving like a maniac! We shoulda thunk of that, although I don't know if it would have helped all that much! ...Joe
