Anyone wanna throw out there how to restore a power brake booster on a 67 C10 does not have to be 100% correct. Booster is rusty but solid. Thanks Brandon

Re: how restore brake booster

Believe me. Re-manufactured brake boosters are cheaper and much safer than trying to do it yourself. Even if you could find a rebuild kit out there, which I doubt, by the time you get it done, you will still be way ahead to just get a reman. I just got one for my 71 and it only cost $90.00.

Re: how restore brake booster

Since you're saying restore - I'll assume you mean something beyond just a re-spray with some gorgeous gray primer and then some color. Eastwood company sells a multi-step paint process designed to replicate the Delco-Morraine (sp?) gold/green tint, if that's what you're talkin about. Taint cheap either. Would suck to put $50 in paint into a used booster and then have it go out at 150K miles, just 15 miles down the road.... Unfortunately, most replacement boosters are not coated like the originals. Some companies carry them, like CPP etc.

Re: how restore brake booster

Dont waste yor time with the paint it is crap... Buy a plated booster from CPP or others and call it good. Tried the paint early on a reman booster and after about 6 months (no driving) it was going south. Bought a new plated unit and have not looked back.

I agree. Summit sells re-manufactured boosters that are gold (At least the picture is).

Some were painted black so if you have that one, real easy to do.

Re: how restore brake booster

I sandblasted, primed, and repainted mine with the rustoleum engine paint from Autozone, cleared coated it when it dried and I think it looks great. Not stock but my truck isn't either so no big deal. I was into it about $20.

Re: how restore brake booster

I blasted my booster and took the right angle die grinder with a scuff pad on it to the master cylinder since it was still on the truck,I then painted it with cast blast spray bomb. I really like the look of the paint and use it on all my rides...... best pic I have

Re: how restore brake booster

I sanded mine, sprayed it with self etching primer, then Krylon stainless steel, then Duplicolor GS 100 gold. Not a perfect match but close enough until I need a new booster.

Re: how restore brake booster

Plug the holes good with a cork/newspaper/saran wrap etc. then blast away. Be careful around the openings. If your nervous about blasting it, degrease real good, scuff it up and go that route.

Re: how restore brake booster

I'm a huge fan of the Eastwood product, which looks great. Yes, it is a tad pricey, but I've redone 2 brake boosters and numerous other under the hood parts.

Re: how restore brake booster

Aren't there rubber parts inside a booster? If so, I'm guessing if the outside is old and crusty, then the innards are as well, right? Something to think about when you go to clean up the exterior of a booster.
