Dash Radio Speakers - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have some speaker questions: First, does anyone have a source for the OEM mono 10 ohm speakers? Second, I have seen that the dual cone stereo dash speakers come in different versions for Chevy and GMC. What gives, I thought they were all the same? Also, some of the aftermarket stereo speakers are for A/C, some are not.

I just bought a dual cone speaker because I could not find the original and I figured that by the time I rigged something up, I would have as much money into it as buying new. In the listing, there was only 1 part number, nothing about Chevy/GMC air or not. It came from Southern Ky Truck parts for $40.00. I put it in with the stock radio and it sounds okay for a 40 year old AM radio. It fit well but I had to modify my stock harness to plug it in because it just came with connectors on the speaker end.

theres a clearance problem with the center vent thats why the AC one is different

a true pain in the ass to install by the way

If you want a stock speaker disregard this, but forget the dual cone unless you have very damaged hearing anyway they sound terrible. Your best bet is to find a pair of good sounding small speakers that will fit in there and make up a bracket to mount them.
P.S. the easiest way to work in there is to pull the glove box.

If you want a stock type replacement speaker you can usually find one at Radio Shack.

Thanks for the information. I found a place that can 're-cone' my original speaker, and I am going to see what they want for doing that. The thing is those original speakers were 10 ohms, and many of the speakers made today are less. They do not sound good with an original radio (I have an original AM/FM).

I ordered the 4x10 delco special from this site. It uses the original bracket and is the correct 8 ohm speaker for our trucks original radios. I put one in my truck and the sound is excellant and it has more room than the original. These are great guys to deal with and I highly recommend them.

Just an FYI but acording to my radio tech you must use an 8 ohm speaker if you are using the original radio or you will damage the radio.

Thanks for that link! You and your radio tech. are right, those older Delco radios must have an 8-10 ohm speaker.

those look really good. how do you think that last one (the duals in a 4x10 mount) would sound if i wanted stereo? non-factory radio
