Re: Dumb stuff that you've done

When I was nineteen I was staining a set of cabinets over the kitchen sink. The wire for the light was hanging down, and kept getting in my way. It was dead, so I wrapped it around my arm and the two bare wires were pointing at my ribs, under my arm.

The wire wasn't dead.

My mom used to fry it in a batter. One of my few good memories. Actually found a BBQ place in San Diego that had fried okra, but it was more individual pieces instead of all stuck together. That little place was a redneck haven

I do like jalapenos

Add brown beans and ham and fried taters and we've got ourselves a meal.

Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse here has a buffet with breaded fried okra and brown beans and ham and cornbread. I try to stay away from buffets these days, but occasionally I go there for the beans and okra.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done

This thread's got a lot of good material..

This happened to my boss. Maybe 1986 or so. I was 15 or 16 and worked the oven at a local pizza place. Didn't really deal with customers but they were always right in front of me. Just cooked and kept my mouth shut as my boss talked enough for the both of us .

Anyway one day, a guy gets off of the bus just outside the pizza joint. By the looks of him, he appeared to have been just released from a lengthy incarceration. I'd known a few people in the neighborhood that had gotten into a little trouble and they always had that same look when they came back. Shiny black leather work boots, denim pants, matching coat buttoned up to the top. Neatly trimmed horseshoe 'stash, clean cut, slicked back hair but had a look as if not to be messed with. No visible tattoos except for the 2 teardrops next to his eye.

Guy: I'd like a small cheese pizza..

My boss: Sure thing, wait, hey dude why 'ya crying? Whats up with the tear drops there? (chuckling)

Me: Intentionally burns the crap outta my hand on the oven door to get away from my boss and out of that kitchen ASAP!

The guy ended up not getting food and left.

But I tell ya, that boss of mine was always opening his mouth just as his foot was swinging around to fill it!

For some reason this particular actuator was on the same circuit as the control system and I really did not want to shut it all down. No worries, it's only 120VAC and I've pulled that hot a dozen times, right? When I stuck my screw driver in the terminal slot my teeth chattered for a few seconds. I was standing there wondering how it could happen because I had done this in other areas with no issues at all. Then I realized I was standing on a conductive floor with conductive shoes on. I then went and spent the time to do a proper shut down, lock and try like I should have done in the first place. Haste is not your friend.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done

When I was in high school, my brother and a friend and I were fishing in the Sacramento River. As we were rolling up to a snag in the aluminum boat to tie off, we were coming in ever so slightly hot, so I put my hand out palm up against the log to slow us down. Well it didn’t work, and my hand got caught between the boat and the snag, and as the boat slid against it, my finger caught a rivet. The rest was pretty gross, but later at the ER, I was in tears as the nurse tried to put things back together, I asked her what she was doing that hurt worse than the injury (I couldn’t watch), she said she had to put my fingernail back into the cuticle so the new nail would know to grow back. I don’t know what’s dumber, the incident, or the fact I was disappointed that she put the nail back and deprived me of the scar.

My dad used Brylcreem. It was always kept in the same spot, and the toothpaste was always in its spot. Of course I couldn't resist switching them once.
Let's just say that was one more time dad was less than pleased with me.

A guy I know , he is 20 years my senior , told me that he and his future bride were both virgins way back when . A friend of his told him he could perform all night if he used a Dab of BenGay on his member just before the act . He said it Damn near killed him .

I would have Shot that So Called Friend . It really happened according to him .

I thought it was limburger cheese for all night performance (eww?)

Ok Paul, here's one. The BIG ONE one one one one one one

Only been married once. In '95 my wife left. It was just my young son, around 3, and I. life was great, we were doing fine. I was dropping him early at day care and business was rolling smoothly. I was building trucks and Harleys with my boy hanging close. My back yard was the kiddy haven. And the house was all mine! (chicks dig single dads)

I figured I'd sell the place and start up in one of the many places I liked when I rambled in my youth. Just me and my boy. then I realized I would still have to be interacting with my X in regards to our son and I didn't want to deprive him of his mother. Then "Hey, she'd want to move there too!". "hmmm... Still interacting regularly… still living nearby... interacting… nearby... INTERACTING?? Shoot! We might as well stay together and save all the hassle". < Boy was that DUMB

So, we got back together so she can leave ten years later in life after dropping a financial bomb during the recession!!

Funny how a word or phrase can trigger an ancient long-forgotten memory. This was from my high school days (mid-1960s).

For reasons that escape me, some of us would occasionally mess with our shop teacher. I had the bright idea to remove a hubcap from his car and put a few rocks inside, then replace it. Ha ha ha..... but he caught me. As I recall, I had to scrub & wax the shop floor.

If you're wondering how limburger cheese is involved, after making the shop floor sparkle, I just had to do something in return. Y'know how kids are..... Anyway a friend & I bought some limburger cheese, unwrapped it (I never knew anything that smelled like that could actually be eaten, ugh!) and put in inside the shop teacher's car on a warm day. Made sure the windows were rolled up. Didn't get caught that time.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done

It had to have ruined that car. I once left a nice Coleman cooler in the back of my wife's car with water and cheese still in it, in the heat of summer. Well after a couple of weeks I went looking for the smell. Hey, I FOUND IT!! OH my word! I emptied it out scrubbed it good and let it set with bleach, then pinesol and anything else I could think of to get rid of the smell. Finally I set it out in the sun with the lid open and that did it in. Not much smell left but it swelled the plastic tub in the cooler and ruined it. Lid wouldn't even close. Thankfully it had been in the trunk of the car and the smell didn't linger in there since the chest had not been opened while in the car. That was a practical new car and my wife's at that.

I guess I was lucky with my first wife. She signed over the house because there was no equity in it at the time. And I never saw her again.

Bad timing on her part. That house tripled in value over the next two years.

Second one was a different story. Bad news. I could list all the things she did but this would be a looong post. I'll just say that she took all she could get and more. She was a nightmare. (Still is) Thank god the kids are grown and I only occasionally have to deal with her nonsense.

Third time is a charm. 10 happy years together.

And it only took me 50 years to do it.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done

I have the house, but it's costing me all over again. I'm a renter at this point . But at least I get money back when I sell it. It's been a hard pill to swallow. I should have never let her come back. Boog thinks I should try it again

Limburger, ugh, nasty. my good friend and fellow carpenter had the absolute nicest '79 K/20 on the planet (in my mind). Since this is a Chevy truck site I'll sidetrack. Bought new, he had done performance work on the engine, just made it healthy and stronger, Detroit Locker/TruTrac, spring work to lift a couple inches, 9.00-16s on stock wheels with hubcaps, Ramsey winch with a custom 4x4 steel bumper we made. The rear bumper we made from 4x6 laid flat and put a diamond plate angled drop down to the hitch. That had red diagonal stripes. The truck was 2-tone dark grey & silver. He had JW Builders lettered (in paint) on the door and pinstripe details all over. It had the first set of ladder racks we made on it, contoured uprights to go with the cab. We were proud of our trucks and that leads me to the cheese.

It was Jimmy's wedding and they guys he knew from childhood tied the cans on along with spreading limburger on his nice white headers. He untied the cans, got in and started the truck, pulled out about 20', stopped and got out, opened the hood, and came running in his tux for the head spaz. He slugged him hard and they fought a quick fight before we broke it up. Weddings are meant to be memorable, right?
