Thanks for the feedback! I am still learning the ins and outs of the video making process. I go back and forth on whether there should be music. The audiences are pretty well split down the middle. Maybe if I can get more feedback like yours, I will definitely consider it!

Thank you! Yes the door was in fairly good shape. I lucked out! Maybe if I get a bad door I will do another video.

I agree! I learned a lot while doing it and I think others can too. Especially while we are all stuck at home for extended periods of time.

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Your videos are good. Don't change anything. personally, I don't like having to listening to other peoples selection of music when watching an instructional video. Also, thank you for not putting up one of those excessively long intros which are annoying to sit through. Straight to the subject at hand. I like it. Keep up the good work.

BTW, one of the bolts you removed from that mirror was a bit long, I thought. Who stuck a 2 inch bolt in that thing

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Are you going to cover the window regulator and lock mechanism in video 5?
No audio is kind of weird, I'm also not a fan of music over the video. In my opinion, there needs to be some speaking even if it's just some tips on hard to remove parts like the wing window as an example.

Still a good video series, nice job.

That's a good idea to cover the windows in a video. One of the members here has a couple of youtube videos on this very subject. There needs to be some others though as (as far as i know) those two videos are the only ones on the subject.

Thank you! I feel like each video is improving, albeit just a little bit. Haven't figured out how to do voice overs just yet, but I agree that would help a lot.

I had forgotten to show it, but I ended up removing the regulator and lock mechanism. The door is just a shell.

I highly recommend doing that if you plan to remove the door and need to handle it often. It is so much lighter!

Currently, the doors are painted and installed back on the cab as empty shells. I will do a wing window rebuild (you probably saw the state it was in) and post it too!

Thank you for your feedback!

Noted! I haven't gotten to the wing windows yet and they need some work! Stay tuned!

Thank you Richard, I really appreciate it! Yes long intros are super annoying, especially when the guy is just spewing opinions or life stories that don't relate at all. I'm still pretty camera shy so this seemed like a happy medium.

As for the bolts... it was me! Lol I converted to those mirrors back in college and for some reason waited to switch them over until late one night at my uncle's house and had to drive the truck home. I never was happy with the outcome and it is one of the many reasons I decided to blast my truck to pieces and start from the ground up.

Thank you again for the feedback!

You're welcome. I am considering making videos also and know nothing about making one, only watching them. I can appreciate anyone who makes an effort to produce instructionals as they certainly add value to the experience. For as much help as I have received over the years, I think that making a video is the least I could do to return something to the community. I'm working on some but I suck at it. Yours are much better. Thanks

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Nice videos. I am sure you can add voice in the editing. It would be nice to get some discussions about the challenging parts.

I like no music for sure and I hate the long stories I see in some videos.

I think some videos of people trying things for the first time and have no experience would be fun to watch and make us newbies feel better about our own ignorance.

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Sweet videos! Thanks!

I got a question for you, on one of my doors, that lower spring loaded thing that the vent window pivots on is snapped off. Do you think it can be reattached to the vent window or am I gonna have to buy a whole new re-pop assembly?

I have snapped one or two as well. I'm not sure if it can be welded back on or not. I have to say I purchased a brand new set of vent windows for another truck I have and I never will again. In less than a year it is already rusting through the chrome and the window pane dislodged from the frame and wants to fall out. If you have a welder I would give it a shot!

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Thank you everyone so much for the support! It give me confidence to keep trying my hand at this video stuff!

In fact, the last video I have of the door is now live!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93NDEy9sgBM

I'm going with Destroyer Gray on this truck. I like it a lot! I have made notes of everyone's recommendations on this thread for future videos. This one was already completed so I couldn't implement the changes to it. Better videos are to come!

Thanks!

-Cody

Re: 1971 Door Restoration!

Good stuff, thanks for posting!

My doors need much more attention...replacing rusted out bottoms and lower skin.

Thanks for showing how you sanded down, filled, and block sanded. Good to see example of where I need to go when welding is done.
