then skim coat of bondo never no more then 1/4 in thick may result in cracking if to thick then primer

The only problem is that this panel glue absorbs paint to prevent this i over sanded then apply a thin layer body filler

Sounds simple enough, would a local paint supply place have that automix?

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

worked on the front bumper some today trying to get rid of those unsightly horns. seems over the years they've been used to push vehicles or whatever and has really dented the bumper. i got most of the worst of it out today. lord i forgot how hard that metal was. not having a torch to heat it didn't make it any easier either. had to get a BFH for the 16oz was bouncing off and hitting me in the forehead lol. wish me luck on the rest. we decided just to paint it the same color as the lower half is gonna be.

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

believe it or not i have one of those with a complete set of dolly hammers for bodywork. just not here. they're in storage. too far to drive just to pick up a couple of tools and don't really have the room for anything else here. we have to squeeze sideways to get down the hallway to the bedrooms. our compressor is set up there wired straight to fusebox. shh. don't tell anyone. lol

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

The 91 Sonoma, first the alt went out, then I shattered the back glass, then the alt went back out. PLus I had to get the alt bracket welded back together. Its just been little stuff like that.

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

Give me more detail on what you did to the front bumper please! Looks like you welded the brackets in, but did you bolt them up first and then grind off the bolt heads on the front? What'd you use to get rid of the chrome on it, just grind it off?

Looks good from what I see!

Lightbulb Re: It ain't over till it's over.

we welded the brackets and then welded the bolts on back then ground off the bolt heads on the front to get rid of the chrome we used hydrochloric acid (MSDS) washed with cold water then skim coat of bondo where needed sanded it down with 220 /800 then primer

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

I was thinking of having my chrome shop do something similar, was just wondering how hard it'd be to do it in house. Getting rid of the chrome is my biggest concern I guess.

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

all you have to do soak the part in a hydrochloric acid bath for a few hours. any machine shop that does chrome plating can do it it for you.

the bathed steel parts come out burnt looking and would need a good sanding before painting
