What is the stock ride height of a K10?
I am fairly sure my truck has a lift, but I'm unable to determine how high it is.
It currently has 31 inch tires on it (so stock from what I've read) Just saw this one on the Forum (Thanks TBONE1964) Not sure what tires it has on it, but it appears stock. So what is the best way to determine my lift height? does someone out there have a nice stock K10 with 31's they can measure the distance between the tire and the fender? Thanks. |

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
It does look a little taller than stock to my eyes, but doubt it's more than a 2" lift. Are there add-a-leafs on it? This is my K10 with 31" tires and stock suspension...

first one looks like it has a lift, but it's also leaning over like it's drunk, so hard to tell. You asked about K10s - looks like pics are of K20s(?)

FWIW here's a shot of my K1500 from a similar angle (not here to measure) with 31" tires and with some rear sag but have to include an "after" shot also...

Take pictures of the front and rear springs and we might be able to give you a best guess.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Looks like an older 4". They do sag over time, but I've lifted a few. Look at the rear spring and see if it has blocks. The older kits didn't have rear springs.

The first one (mine) is a K10, the second is a K20. I will take pictures of the springs and post pictures... The back does have blocks but they are not 4 inches.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Yeah, the blocks for the four inch kits were less than 4". I don't have any these days since I used springs, but as I recall they are tapered and around 3" on the short side. They didn't make many, if any, odd 3, 5, etc. lifts so I'm betting 4". I've lifted a bunch of these and squares, usually 4" and usually 33's. The stock front springs were probably a 2 leaf that had a negative arch when loaded. The 4" puts the K10s close to stock K20 height (a little taller, but close). Stock springs should be easy to find if you want them, then just remove the rear blocks and replace u-bolts. 31s will fill the wheel well at stock height. I can't remember for sure, but it seems 31s can rub, depending on width, when you work the suspension and turn.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Here are some pictures of the springs. It is a K10 according to the VIN, I'm not sure the history of the badges.
The blocks measure 2 inches exactly. Here it is with 315/75/R16 tires which are ~35 and they don't rub at all (except a little on the tie-rods due to the backspacing) |

I'm not sure what you're looking for. If you want it stock height, buy front springs and be done. The tires on the flatbed in the pic will rub when turned and the suspension under load. I have no doubt.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Based on the pictures, I'd say it is a stock suspension with (as you have already indicated) 2" blocks under the rear springs. Adding 2" blocks under the back springs is somewhat common. They tend to look a little low in the back often. The only thing I'm not sure about is the number of leafs in the back spring pack. I'd have to go look at one of my stock springs and count them to see if they are the same. The fronts are original stock for sure. You can see how they have the negative arch to them. Every lifted front spring that I've ever seen has a positive arch to it.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
I counted my stock 1/2 ton springs and you have two extra rear leafs and one extra front leaf than what my stock set has. So, I'm wondering if the springs that you have are from a 3/4 ton maybe.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Interesting, the SPID says "heavy duty leaf springs", so I am assuming it is a heavy half being it has half ton axles. I'm starting to come up with a theory that C/20 was also used to represent the heavy half ton as I have come across 6-7 C/20 4x4's that have the original vin tag that starts with K

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
"Heavy halls" did not get 20 emblems. Your right fender has a 10 and the left a 20. Just means someone changed the left front fender and/or emblem.

Re: What is the stock ride height of a K10?
Heavy Half is a later model not offered in 67-72. What are the VINs on the door pillar, frame, and the inside of the glove box lid? Do these match? I see the tie rod, these began as a GM add in 1972.
