Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Yesterday I went to go look at an LQ4 setup some guy had in his C15. Would have been a good deal/ good way to go, if the engine didn't knock...

Looks like I'm sticking to an older gen small block and saving the new stuff for down the road a ways, when I save enough to do it the right way, complete with a TKO.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I went to the DMV and paid up my tags.

My mail has been screwed up since I moved twice, so I was late because I never got the bill. But the DMV was very understanding... Well no they weren't. That was a joke. They hosed me out of over $600 and could care less.

My registration was apparently sent to my house in So. Cal. and my tenant was supposed to forward anything important to me. I guess he forgot about that, and I think his rent is about to go up.

I did an address change online when I moved, but that didn't seem to work, because it still showed my old address on 3 of my cars when I was at the DMV. But at least they smile when they take your money.

At least it's done now. Hopefully.

My new expensive sticker.

Sunday - state inspection. $7.00
Today - title and registration. $121.
Legal to drive on the public roads. Priceless.
Cheesy, but made me smile...

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Well between the snow squalls 27° temps and 60 mph winds I managed to get the tank out of the 68. Need to get it boiled out full of rust .Just wondering what the 440 behind the tank and under the hood mean. Also my truck must have been made on a Friday. Runs all over the interior . Even the dash I'll get picks of if tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Or made on Monday, when they all came in hung over. I can attest to seeing the guys going across the street to the "Chevy-Ho" at lunch time at the Van Nuys AD, and coming staggering back drunk as rats. Of course, the only "trucks" we built were El Caminos, and the occasional GMC Sprint.

Before going to work there, I worked at a dealer, and we had an El Camino come in with runs about every foot or so, on both sides. The Zone Office guy made a point to inspect that one! He wouldn't believe it, until he saw it. How many people could have laid eyes on it and not said a thing? Crazy. It came from the Van Nuys plant, as I recall.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Installed the spindles and coil springs today. Two big sons and the weight of the engine made it easy, even with stock height coils.

Now that the suspension is in I'll say this about Moog. It would be nice if they included all the hardware, and the right hardware too. Luckily my old castle nuts were refinished. Among other things they gave me 5/8" nuts for 1/2" studs.

That and zerk fittings aren't what they used to be. I used the old ones.

Put the tank back in and got her running for more than a couple of minutes. Next it's a tune up and a steering box.

Worked on the seat brackets. Cut them down and inch and got the mounts so it sits back 2". And pulled it out of the garage and turned it around under its own power for the first time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Two hours and I managed to get all of the OEM spark plug stands and wire routing clips installed as well as most of the new ground straps. Sooo much easier to do when you don’t have a radiator, exhaust manifolds and inner fenders in the way under the hood.

I wanted to get the cab back on the dolly so I can finish smoothing out the firewall... but the bed was on it. It took quite a bit of finagling and figuring but it’s done.

maybe you and I are refering to the same thing Im talking about the blue apparatus you can barely see inside the bed , I have one that lifts the cab that you attach to the engine hoist(i have successfully moved my cab solo) Im wondering if there is something you can use to put inside the bed to lift with no damage ....looks like thats what he did/has /used??
