Thumbs up GM Truck Hydro-Boost Sealkit ?

I have an 82 K10 Diesel, It was Converted to Gas (SBC 305) But original Diesel had a hydro-boost! I've been converting it back over to diesel so I bought a 3/4 Ton Diesel truck that's the same year, engine besides being 2wd...

Anyhow, I think the one from my parts truck was leaking right behind the master So I was just gonna buy a brand new one unless I can get a Seal kit or rebuild kit for it Is that even possible for the Older 73-87 Hydro-Boosts, Do they have any part numbers on them or anything like that?? Thanks

Re: GM Truck Hydro-Boost Sealkit ?

I'm glad this came up. I went through 3 Duralast rebuilds before making them get one from another vendor a couple years ago. Even this one leaks constantly. Went to get a new one and they quit carrying the brand I got, and their house brand is out of stock with no ETA on availability. There was a thread here a while back about rebuilding them and it looked pretty straightforward. I just couldn't remember where to get the kit.

Have already installed the kit into the hydroboost, but haven't installed the hydroboost into the truck yet.

Your welcome, It's been something I've been "Pondering" about in my mind for the last few months. I didn't want to ask too fast and then get the incorrect answers b/c i didn't look over my Unit very well or "Too-Fast" Ya know.

I got a kit from Pirate Jack's because mine was leaking brake fluid on the floor in the cab. Fixed it right up.

So you can replace the brake rod seal? I read somewhere that you had to remove the rod to do that and the rod was crimped in place.

There's two styles. The older ones secured the rod with a rubber grommet. The newer ones crimped(staked) the rod in place. Instructions say to pull the grommet type out for repair, and to cut/reweld the staked rod when repairing. I cut and welded my staked rod.

After I did that, I ran across info saying that the staked rod could be pulled out as well. It just takes a lot more force, and some fabrication to make a puller. Restaking it is easy enough, it seems. Just use a small punch to crimp some metal back around the ball end of the shaft.

With a staked rod, it's going to require some metal work either way. If you have handy access to a welder, it's probably just as easy to cut and reweld.

I was able to pop the rod out of mine and put it back it (maybe not recommended but I dont see how its going to fall out when reattached to the pedal).

I did this on my '75 which seems to have all kinds of weird slightly different quirky parts that dont seem to apply to most squarebodys.

Re: GM Truck Hydro-Boost Sealkit ?

Found this thread and thank everyone for all the information. Just replaced all my power steering components and now I sprung a leak (I imagine the system was not operating at such a high efficiency previously and now it blew a seal).

Ordered the kit and am installing it this week.

Re: GM Truck Hydro-Boost Sealkit ?

Rebuilt mine finally. The kit was very easy to install. When I got it apart I noticed that the big main seal wasn't centered, and my piston has some very light scoring where it was contacting the bore. But pulled it apart and cleaned it all and replaced everything except the input seal. It works way better than it did...I do believe the rebuilder also missed hooking up the smaller piston correctly. I still have the slightest weep out the hole on the bottom between the master and the booster, but it is 95% better than it was.

Re: GM Truck Hydro-Boost Sealkit ?

Yes Pirate jack has the kits to rebuild but my new issue is that it seems that some units have checkballs and little tiny rods and some dont. Now my problem is that I could of swore when I took it apart i kept an eye on it because of small parts making an escape that I may or may not be missing parts. I dont want to just slap it together and have it blow ($250-350). Any way to ID each Individual units?
