A/C parts question
Hey guys and gals, the truck i just got is an A/C cab and has the heater ducts for A/C on both sides of the firewall. it doesn't have the compressor and most of the other underhood parts. my question is, do you think it would be a good idea to take all this out, and replace it with non A/C stuff. i have all the parts to do that from my other 72. im not a real big A/C guy anyway, and it just seems to clutter up the underdash. what do you think? also what are the A/C peices worth? thanks for any help

not sure what you're looking for, doesn't really matter one way or the other... if it bothers you, get rid of it... if it doesn't, leave it where it is...
I don't think there's much value in a pile of incomplete A/C parts.

If you decide to rip out the A/C post what you have on the Parts Board. There's always people looking for A/C stuff.

I don't imagine the parts you have are worth a lot of money. I sold the complete system from my truck for 200.00 last summer, after I put in Vintage Air.

busterwivell,
i have a 71 lwb with a ac/cab but the parts in the engine compartment are missing (minus the firewall parts) would you suggest replacing the whole system with something like a vintage air complete system or try and get the pieces and parts to rebuild to "factory" style a/c??? |

I guess that's up to you. My A/C didn't work. I suppose it was a bad compressor. My thought process was.....why play with 30+ year old parts, tie up a lot of money and then switch to a Vintage Air system? Of course, the guy I sold it all to put it together and it was fine. The VA kit is a lot more compact then the factory unit. It's now a lot easier to change plugs in my big block. Plus, this system is 134, a lot cheaper than R12. It will freeze you out if you are not careful.

One thing to consider if you are giong to take out the A\C box and replace with regular heater box is that the holes in the firewall are not the same for the two systems.
