As for the thought of doing it with arduino controls.....I like the idea...but execution is going to be a *!***. Can the arduino board support the voltage needed to run a door solenoid?
It wouldn't be hard to make a simple interface for on the tablet, you could probably keep it to a few "radio buttons" and regular toggles. I'd think the issue would be a failsafe. Almost every system would need a backup system, so you don't end up locked out of a car you can't even jumpstart.
Bonus if you can include air suspension controls.

When worried about a load (most of the time) you just add a relay

Re: Best Stereo Under $150?

My steering wheel has the switches to control my air ride, should the tablet fail. Should both fail, then there might be issues.

The door locks work off the actuators I installed in my doors (it's in my build thread) and run off the alarm module, the windows will be the same. I can still lock/unlock my doors manually, too.

The air ride control via tablet isn't hard, but Accuair is already done, so unless you just want to do it yourself, you don't have to. Or you could just wrap their application in a shinny custom interface.

And yes, back in the day the Supertuner III was bad ass (but the shop I worked in sold Nakamichi, so that was baller).
