Think of the heat that is being added to the fuel through pumping to the fuel rail, and back to the tank.

Given that the fuel and ambient air start at the same temp, the fuel will soon be hotter than the ambient air around the pump.

I don't buy it.
Not BS, it happens. It is all heat disappation. With the pump in the tank, it has the cool fuel to pull the heat from the pump. It ambient air, the motor builds heat and the surrounding air will not draw the heat from the pump which causes the fuel to heat up and vaporize. Perfect example is too heat an item up in the oven and see how long it takes too cool down. Then heat it up again and run ambient temp water over it as see how fast it cools. When installing the pump in the tank, they usually install a pan at a minimum that the pump remains submerged in fuel even with a low tank. With the pump in the tank, if you run out of gas, the pump immediately regains its prime with more fuel where an inline pump down stream can be hard to prime if the tank is incorrectly plumbed.

I'm probably wrong but i thought the 5.3 is a LS1. A version of it at least. I'm prolly wrong.

Basically, the bore is about the only difference and I believe ls1's are aluminum blocks.

Yes they are, accessories are different, pistons are differnet, heads are different, oil pan is different, intake is different, injectors are different, wiring harness is different, etc. You can turn a 4.8 or a 5.3 into a iron block ls1 like I am doing with not a lot of parts, especially if you have a 5.3

What parts are you changing? Are you going with a larger bore also?

Actually, here - you are wrong - http://www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/eb040538.htm

There is an LS1, LS6, LR4, LM7 LQ4 and LQ9, and all are varying sizes, with the LQ9 being the most desireable for buildup purposes.

There is a lot more information out there describing each, but I don't have the time to look it up (sorry )

Just added board member '68GenIII' and his swap thread, along with a link to discussion on headers, and a link to an article in a popular 4x4/offroad magazine's swap.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

Nope, got a close friend of mine in town from NY, so I'll be tied up with her and my fiance for the weekend. Besides that, I've got a partially shattered toe with a full cast on my leg that won't let my ankle bend, so ... it's incredibly hard to walk. More info and pics here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=243166

Only extra work I'll be doing this weekend is trying to pull a couple of random sprigs of crab grass in the yard and swapping out a simple part in my VW.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

A little heads up on guys wanting or doing the conversion. I finished up making my harness stand alone today. If you have the pinouts it is really not a lot of trouble converting a harness. Here is a link with the pinouts http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312119

This one is for a 98 and those are the wires you take out and use to power the harness, etc http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312119

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

Are the 6L motors from trucks the same as the 6L corvette or gto motor except the intake? I would imagine that the 6L truck motor is cheaper than buying the "corvette" name. Thanks Josh

Yep. Same thing, for the most part. Iron block as opposed to aluminum and ~1/2 point lower compression.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

Some more info.... I bought a set of fans and a radiator out of a 98 camaro and it is the same height or close enough to the stock radiator. You can save some money this way, both with all the hoses on the radiator and the fans shipped for $100 bucks.

I found this truck in Arkansas a few years ago. I did not buy it, but I should have. The motor and tranny are from Street and Performance and were installed in Mena, Arkansas. The truck was a strong runner and you could not glue it to the ground, even if you wanted to. Cruise along at 30 MPH and step on it and the rear tires would just light up like a roman candle.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

The Vette' and GTO 6.0l is an LS2. More differences than the block and compression, but still fairly interchangable. A few engine covers and sensor locations being the biggest differences.

I remember seeing that truck while I was there. I think it sold for around $10K. Someone got a great deal.
