1965 Bed Issues

I'm having an issue with my bed lining up with the cab. I put the bed on the truck and it is sitting about a 1/2 inch to high. I used the 1/4 rubber bushings that are listed to use between the cross bars and the frame. Not sure what the issue can be so if anyone has any ideas and/or fixes please let me know.
I have a couple of pictures that shows the issue but thats all I have right now. I got a little discouraged after that and the truck has sat idle the past couple of weeks.

I was told that the cross braces are the originals for the truck but not 100% sure because the truck was appart when I bought it. Are there different cross bars for different years? Again if anyone has ideas please let me know.

Thanks, Robert

Did you replace the cab mount bushings as well?
If they are original, no doubt they have compressed on you.

Re: 1965 Bed Issues

McMurphy, yea I replaced them with new Energy Suspension poly bushings. I have look around and they different the cross braces for 1960-1963 and 1964-1966. I'm hoping maybe I have the wrong ones. Thanks and your build is looking good. I like the interior work.

Re: 1965 Bed Issues

Just my opinion but when I took the bed off my 65 I never saw any indication of rubber bushings being used between the cross-rails and the frame. Try putting the bed on without the 1/4" pads and see if it lines up.

Re: 1965 Bed Issues

The different bed sills for the '60-'62 versus the '63-'66 has nothing to do with the height. It is a difference in the mounting hole locations due to the wider frames on the '60-'62's.

What is the condition of your cab mounts? I'm talking about the rubber parts. If they are new, are you certain they are assembled correctly? What about the cab mount portion on the bottom of the cab, and also the bracket on the frame? I agree that I have never taken apart a truck that had rubber cushions between the bed cross sills and the frame. That doesn't mean they were never there, I just have not seen them. I know you can buy them.

Re: 1965 Bed Issues

I believe the bed rubber bushings are part of your problem. I think they are an aftermarket idea and not original. I know a guy that bought some and he was told by the vendor that they would raise his bed up. It did, and I noticed it right away. He's happy with it because he says it's quieter. I wouldn't like it myself.
