Another question I have on it. I am trying to finalize my budget for this rig and was looking at radiators. I work in a body shop, therefore I have a couple radiator vendors. One can get me a new radiator for a 63 pickup. Would it fit my Burb?

I haven't a clue as to what's correct for GMC interiors. With Chevy interior sheet metal, you had the choice of any color you wanted, as long as you wanted fawn. I have seen a few factory red/fawn seat covers though.
Perhaps a PO painted the dash? I dunno.

I went out today and lubed up door & tailgate hinges. Much better, but I now have some questions about the clam shell tailgate. My top half does not close well at all. I think the top hinges are to blame. I can get it mostly closed but then have to push up & in on the top half above the glass. Then I can push it in to latch to the lower gate. Otherwise, it shuts tight now.

I also looked over the engine bay. I think this thing would run with a little (and a mean a little) love. I am gonna see if it will turn over later this week. There is a little tag hanging off the motor that has "159" stamped in it. It has me wondering too. Any thoughts on that little tag? (1st picture, dead center. On the water pump.)

The correct interior color for the 60-62 years was a light silver called Silver Fawn metallic, I have the paint code if you need it. The top of the dash was a semigloss "Charcoal Grey" (anti-glare) See pictures.

I forgot to add . Button up your carb with a few HD garbage bags, remove the alt/generator and spray a good amount of Purple Stuff Degreaser on her, let set for an hour and using a steam cleaner orPSI washer, not the crude off.

Thanks! As I looked at the interior more yesterday, I saw the silvery color to it. But the dash top is a turquoise now. As I look at the jambs and such I am staring to think this thing may have been a factory black. Gonna dig through it this week and see if I can find a build card in the mess that is the interior.

Tag on the water pump is probably a rebuilders tag or an old parts house stock tag.

Ordered up some misc parts this weekend. Should be here this week. I am working on gathering parts to get it on the road. Need to figure out motor mounts, button up the motor, then I can set it all in and build a crossmember for the new tranny.

Oh yeah, I found a set of drop springs from a buddy...cheap. Then I gotta get the front down to match.

When I got my 1960, it had been sitting for around 10 years without running. I pickled the cylinders with regular motor oil, turned the crank by hand a few revs and let it set for a week. the truck ran but I could not get it to start off the starter, had to pull it around the neighborhood with a neighbors' truck and I dropped the clutch about 6 times before he fired off.

My 61 had been sitting since around 89-91. I lubed the cylinders and spun it around a while and after changing the coil and points it fired up with starting fluid. Even with bad gas in it it still ran ok. It cost about 100 bucks in parts after running a little. Normal stuff like water pump and fuel pump and wires. Carb cleaning /rebuild, new gas, tune-up and valve adjustment and you should be good to go.

Guys like you make me want to keep the big V6. But I have a 355, a cam, nice intake, Carter 600. And a th350. They would be such a fun pair in here. Ibut the V6 has a ton of retro cool factor. I don't know what to do.

Cool build Gerald!! I'd say get the V6 running first and see how you like it. If you don't, then you can sell a running V6 and make the V8 swap a little easier. Can't wait to see more progress on this

As you can see by my avitar, I am a V-6 fan. Having to have rebuilt 3 of them makes one a bit of an addicted junkie. I like the fact that in 99.99% of the case I'm the only one on the field that has something a bit different from the pack.

You can always throw something away but you can sometimes never get it back. Here is what a V-6 sounds like without the mufflers.

A 350 will bolt to the V-6 but you need an adaptor which runs about $800 (contact Bendtsends transmissions)

So, I can finally say I made some progress! I started cleaning the rear area out. I found a ton of magazines, majority of which are still readable. A lot of National Geographic, quite a bit of Wyoming Wildlife, a couple old Road atlas', and some other misc magazines. All from the late 60s to the early 80s. There was even a National Geographic from 1969...the issue from when we landed on the moon. There was some old parts too. A couple fly wheels, a clutch, a couple AC fuel pumps, part of a heater control assembly (with knobs that I just bought ), factory armrest, etc. There were some old beer bottles and pop cans too, but nothing real exciting there. Sorry I didn't take pics. I was just trying to make progress. But I will get some at some point.
