Qjet base plate repair

https://youtu.be/R86zI4ii0nk

I thought I would share this as to how to repair a worn out throttle shaft bore in a quadrajet carburetor base plate.

Finding a worn out bore has put my rebuild on hold for a bit.

Re: Qjet base plate repair

I've watched a couple of his video's, he does a good job.

If you don't want to wait, Summit Racing has "remanufactured" QJets, long as you have a rebuildable core to send back.

Summit Racing QJet: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-250200

Jet also makes them. Not sure if one is better than the other, Jet are more expensive.

I have 2 QJets that I'm either going to rebuild or go the Summit Racing way.

The fun is in DIY but this one sure does seem a lot more complicated than the Holley I did so many years ago. Tomorrow I'll see if I can find a reamer that costs less than a carb.

Re: Qjet base plate repair

Yeah, I hear ya. I've rebuilt a couple of QJets. I have several sets of secondary needles that I play with. They are stamped and I looked up the stampings and put the middle of the pack for Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and it ran pretty fast up into the higher range. Got pulled over by a CHP upon doing so. LOL. I wish I had a reamer to loan you. I haven't had to do that.....yet.

Re: Qjet base plate repair

Thanks for the offer but since posting I took another look at it and decided it isn't that bad and will use it as is. I found one bent needle metering rod and one plugged jet. The float pintle also had a big groove around the rubber part which could explain all the gas in the oil. It is now back together with only the choke to put on..
