Steering Wheel Lock ?

After trading our '99 OBS Tahoe for a newer '05 Tahoe I will most likely have a few questions for owners of the newer 2000 - 2006 Tahoes.

First Question:

Our '99 Tahoe after placing the gear shift lever in the Park position and removing the key the steering wheel "locked" in position and could not be moved left or right. The '05 Tahoe steering wheel DOES NOT LOCK in position with key removed and shift lever in PARK. Can be turned left or right altho with effort. Is this correct, has GM changed and moved away from the locking steering wheel?

I found this today after putting on a laced cover for the steering wheel rim that the other half likes. She said the simulated leather steering wheel rim was "too smooth" , did not like the feel of it.

Re: Steering Wheel Lock ?

My 02, 06, and 07 pickups wheels locked when he key was removed. I jave not driven a Tahoe or Suburban in a long time, but I would think it would be the same as the trucks for that function.

Re: Steering Wheel Lock ?

Thanks for the reply. Would not think would be any different for trucks than a Tahoe or Suburban would be. Just seemed odd to me that the wheel no longer locks in place with key out. Think some more research is in order. Maybe stop at a dealership and look at a 2005 Burb or Truck.

Re: Steering Wheel Lock ?

My recently purchased 2005 Chevy pickup does not have a steering wheel lock. I have also wondered about this.
