Ignition key switch

The Alt light stays on with the key off unless I make sure I turn it fully off. What to replace and how to do it?

Re: Ignition key switch

What year ? I replaced mine in the 2000 K2500 a couple weeks ago ,you have to take the cover off the colum =clam shell a couple torx screws on the bottom half then it pops off remove the tilt lever it just snaps out and then push bottom half in anf the top half out should unhook from each other. Once these are off there is a small hole on top of ign. ,take a pik or straightened papre clip and insert in hole and turn ign key at same time should come right out replace with new. There are a couple of youtube videos to show you allso. not that hard to do

What is the alt light? I assume you mean the light that looks like a battery? With the key turned on or to accessory, and the engine off, the light should be on. Engine running, the light should be off. That’s normal operation.
