It's a SWB solid black Highlander with orange plaid. It's got all the package "C" items but, like all Atlanta Highlanders I've seen, no mention of promotional package.

Very nice, are there very many Black ones out there ?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Is this a member's truck? Saw it today in person at a show - 8.1L in a swb Highlander... oh my. Lots of very cool rides there, mostly cars, but a some trucks as well. Even the Gas Monkey Bandit T/A was there. Oh, and is that the original Count Dragula??

About thirty years a go I bought a K10, and I actually got the compressor with all the brackets still attached and hoses. It is still up on the top shelf with my AC stuff.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I finally took a picture of my spid. And yes I see the highlander code.
Here is a picture of my seat on the day I brought it home.
I will someday soon have it redone in its original color.
It is really cool owning one of these trucks, and even cooler
Having a highlander!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Someone went through a fair amount of trouble adding Cheyenne badging, etc to this Highlander. Lol, some would argue it's probably more sought after as a Highlander! I always get spooked when the wheelbase is scratched out on the SPID, though...

Yeah, but they didn't scratch out the model #. It was a long bed. I think it would have been nicer left as original. There's a long list of how not to imitate a Cheyenne Super on this truck.

I appreciate the knowledge regarding model numbers. I never knew the short boxes and long boxes were different. Well said, regarding the "how not to" as well!

Yep, model # on a swb truck would be CE10734. The seller's ebay ad is rather misleading - several statements of original, not restored, blah blah etc.

I concur Mark, a white roof black body Highlander with grey plaid seats and the YG8 Package and as a bonus a 3:73 rear end which makes the truck, even in stock form, gallop pretty good as I soon realized after driving my Highlander home a few years ago. At least the A/C is intact on this one.. LOL...

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Having a great looking spid then scratching out the wheelbase is kinda dumb. You can figure out what it is from the vin. What they did was kinda like the tempest or Le Mans/Ventura being turned into a gto clone. It’ll never be worth what the actual car was but everyone has their own taste and can do what they want with their truck. Just don’t try and pass it off as something it’s not to a perspective buyer.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

One last comment on the black truck. I'm trying to figure out where he got the 16 inch 5 bolt rallys so he can run the 265/70 16 inch tires. Maybe someone is producing 16 inch rallys today as I've never seen or heard of them on an 80's truck, oh yea and has the misconception that rallys came on the 67-72's.

FACTORY RALLY WHEELS
W/ NEW TRIM RINGS AND CENTER CAPS
& NEW 265 70 16 TIRES

While you can discern between 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton, you cannot determine wheelbase for a 1/2 tone from the VIN.

I'm gonna bet it's a typo, those have to be 15" (and look it too)... But who knows. I couldn't even make it through the whole description.

I’ve seen them aftermarket but stock are 15s. The 16s of this era came with dog dish covers as far as I’ve seen. Spid says deluxe wheel covers as well.

Unmolested YG8 Package Highlander but some of the newness has left it but the A/C is all there .. This would have been a sweet truck when new.

Found this for sale in a Facebook Group today. Orange/White/Orange YG8 Highlander with everything still attached, like the DG4 Mirrors. This would have been and could be a real sweetie again.

That looks like a nice solid truck. What's the price and where is it?
