parking brake cable, conduit fingers

In the rear drum brakes where the parking brake cable enters the brake shoe and lever area, I am showing a close up picture of the fingers the conduit grips the entry hole with. I would like to remove a good cable from one truck and install it in another truck that has a bad cable assembly. I am reading the Haynes manual what it says about these, and I can't find mention of them in the Chevy service manual or Chilton's manual. Haynes says to compress the conduit fingers and withdraw the cable assembly. It sure sounds easy and I did this job once before about 5 or 6 years ago and I don't remember having difficulty then. Is there a trick to compressing the conduit fingers, preferably all at one time, and then the cable assembly will come out?

Use a hose clamp to compress the tangs and it will slide out .

Re: parking brake cable, conduit fingers

what I did was.....

use a flat head and a hammer and bang each tab in that you can see, on the other side is a hex nut that you can put a wrench on. turn it with a wrench until the next tang shows and bang that one in too until they are all depressed... then you can pull through.

hose clamp sounds so much easier though lol

Re: parking brake cable, conduit fingers

It ended up working with a hose clamp. I had to try several times. Thanks very much for those ideas.

There's the Lisle 40800 that works well.
