Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

4/7/2010

The day has finally come. This is the first start up of a Chevy Inline 250, GN T3 Turbo, Holley 2300 350cfm Hanger18'ed, Modded FPR, hard-line to turbo, Hyd. from turbo, Custom FAB up-pipe/flange.

Still need to attach/fab intake and carb hat, boost line to FPR, Downpipe out ( very tight ), add Boost gauge and TUNE

It has been a very fun project and it even forced me buy a Hobart 140! BTW a great MIG.

Sound like a tractor, huh?! But you can also here that sweet sound of whine!

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

I am digging it. Once you get an air cleaner on it and the hood down it should tame down the sucking noise and that turbo whine will be even more obvious. Be sure and post up another video!

Sounds like your cam has some lope to it too!

Are you running headers? Got a build thread? We need more details

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

I have not got to drive it yet. It was fresh out of the garage, I couldn't wait any longer.

I need to start a build threat to post all of the pics that I have taken along the way.

Now if I can just tune it right to accept the boost

Any idea what kind of power this is likely to make? What are stock numbers for the 250?

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Power? who knows.

The inline 250 is a very interesting engine. Lower RPM's but a real brute down low.

The boosting should help it a bit

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video ( drive by )

finally got it to run boosted. I had to put together a carb hat and intake. I mounted a boost gauge and it runs a max of around 8 psi. I am running 2.5" mandrel bent straight pipe. The turbo whistle out the tail pipe is very prominent.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

i have not really pushed it yet. I have it jetted with 70's and adv. the timing a bit. So far, no knock. I may pull the plugs and see where im at. When the boost come on it pulls much harder where the naturally asp. 250 slouched off. ( mostly upper rpms ) I am going into this project blind, so im feeling my way around.

I have been throwing the idea of building up my 235 and boosting it, but I have no experience with it. I love the truck!

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

I got around to tuning it a little. I also put a magnaflow performance muffler on it with 3" and it turns out flush, right in front of the rear tire. It sounds deeper and not as much turbo whistle, but it still sings under driving boost. I re-jetted it down to 66 jets with a 4.5 pv. It seems to be running leaner and better ( I think I was running really fat earlier ) I will try to post a new video with the new exhaust.

Ghostwhite - go for it. It is important to get the right turbo, plumb it right, get a good condition used 350cfm Holley 2 bbl and make it blow thru. All else is exhaust routing. If you have any questions, ask me. I'll walk you through it. I've got pics documenting the whole procedure.

"...used 350cfm Holley 2 bbl and make it blow thru." What is that? Pull the choke plates out of it? Just curious.

BTW.... KICK A$$ PROJECT!!

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Taking the choke horn off is part of the blow thru mod. There are a few others that seal it up to allow it to accept boost. This is the best link on how to do it:

http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html

it seems overwhelming at first, but its quite easy.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

The engine rebuild has started. I was tired of oil shooting out of my oil pan caused by worn rings and blow by. I am going .030 over, turbo spec cam, stock internals, hogged out intake to accept holley 2bbl, HEI and these :

new old stock Forged TRW flat top pistons. hard to find item
