is my truck "rare"?

its a 1970 GMC 1500 with an inline 6. Truck has conflicting/shady backstory. Just curious about what you folks 'in the know' think. Any info is welcome.

Re: is my truck "rare"?

Nope....there were millions of these trucks made....so 'rarity' is just not part of their thing.
The numbers on the road today probably number in the hundreds of thousands and they luckily still keep popping up back on the road....which is great to see.

Re: is my truck "rare"?

Once you factor in all the individual options particular to a given truck e.g.
radio delete, strange color, posi, 6cyl, Hydro brake booster etc, it could quite possibly be rare.
However, don't confuse "rare" with desirable. I see that all the time on craigslist. Fellow has a run of the mill everyday work truck, and thinks he has a Gullwing Mercedes on his hands... and is priced as such.

Re: is my truck "rare"?

Is there a year that Chevrolet straight sixes were more common than a GMC V-6?

In a GMC of course.

Re: is my truck "rare"?

If Elvis owned it you might be on to something. Otherwise they made a bajillion of these trucks, so few are rare in the desirable sense. Lots are rare in the "didn't make many others like it with this particular combination of features" but that rarely translates to desirable or valuable.

"Rare" for our trucks usually means a combination of desirable features not often seen together, like a short bed, big block, bucket seats, AC, speed warning, etc... options that individually, people want. In aggregate when combined on one truck that was built that way, that's as close as we get to "rare and desirable" I think.

If you've got the only triple-black L88 Corvette with FM radio, you're set. If you've got the only purple Biscayne with a tissue dispenser, not so much!

Re: is my truck "rare"?

here is some info. 4x2, inline 6 gas, 1/2 ton, wide side pickup (fleetside), assembled St. louis, 1970. In the glove box : model CS15936, 4552AA WHITE/DARK BRONZE, 4622AG GOLD VINYL TRIM, 4963AZ RADIO, AB2AK...and thats about all I can read. I believe the engine is a 250 and has a saginaw 3 speed manual trans. (three on the tree).
The guy I got it from told me that the guy he got it from told him it was a "barn find". Well, internet search reveiled that this truck was on ebay in Dec 2016 as well as advertised for sale on classics for sale sites. Those adds had pictures of the truck in a out lot with headings saying rare truck. A bunch of hoowee, I know. I got it for dirt cheap so I dont care really about its 'history'. Only year for the paint I think but ....cant be rare, right?

Thanks. My first attempt at this forum format. I'm still walking in the dark here. I'll figure out how to use all this 'stuff' in time.

I almost went and looked at that truck, same color combo as my 70 GMC.
Have fun with it.

Re: is my truck "rare"?

I was in the barn the other day looking on my laptop and found a truck to buy .

Hey, that's cool it doesn't bother you about the BS. Some sellers think they have to put on a 3 ring circus to sell something. You got yourself a good ole GMC pick'm'up and that's all that matters.

X2, but I would add very good original paint too. Here is an example (not mine) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Chevrol...1Y3cm5&vxp=mtr Side note, I have seen the base model Nova, Camaro etc. hubcaps on some 70's C-10's before, there may have been a shortage of the truck hubcap during the '70 model year, maybe due to the big '70 UAW strike?

Re: is my truck "rare"?

Everything thing now-a-days is 'rare' and a 'barn-find' getting tired of hearing the nomenclature. "" Rare barn find only 6k on the speedo! ------- yeah, right everything is worn out and rusted into the dirt.
