Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Thanks Guys we have been laggin the past few weeks because of football and Dad going back to work instead of working on the truck every day. Thanks its a boost when people say things like that about what we have built.

Connected the shift linkage to check for clearance. Also mocked the front part of the exhaust up to check for clearance.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

The whole package looks really good. Only things I see that need attention are put a couple small gussets behind the upper control arm mounts as menioned. An unsupported slab of 1/4 inch will eventually sag in. Wont take much to make it bulletproof. The other thing I see being a problem is the rear diff is rubber mounted on the back and solid mounted on the front. That will put added stress on the front of the case and the front mount and eventually one of them will crack. other that that, A+ on the rest. keep it up.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Well we have gusseted the plates now with the addition of the upper shock mount. And in the back we will eventually change the rubber bushings to neoprene which will help. The original Batwing that came out of the corvette had a huge crack in it which was probably because of the same reason.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

We havent done much but put the clip on to check Our stance and to see if we are going to need spacers on the front. I say yes but dad says know I think the wheels need to come out about an inch he says they are perfect. I dont know what do you all think? Pics. Also what we have been working on to stay organized.

Cool cabinet! Maybe do a write up over.....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=89

As far as wheel track? Can we see a straight shot? From what I see it looks goos as is. But a lower front shot might make it easier to tell.

Nice truck !

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Well we havent been knockin stuff out like we were but we got the front accessories onto the motor and ordered some parts. We also got rid of the smog pump and moved the alternator in so it would clear the inner fender. We found an electric site called larryselectric and they have a tpi wire harness without all the smog stuff and security features the corvette had and it also came with a new computer to run the new harness that should be here Friday. heres some pics.

great project and nice work, I think you did a great job so far but....I see one issue that I think could be better, I know its been said before but I think the upper a frame brackets are not safe, its not ideal to but weld a plate like that and put that type of stress on it, I would take some plate and make some triangles and run them on the inside of the frame on each side of the plate you have there...please don't be offended by this ..I just see a potential issue

Unfortunately we do not but we did use the measurements from the original frame from the Factory Assembly Manual. Personally i do not know of any plaes that would have a blueprint computer document.

At this time I do not see a need to put these gussets in as it is not going any where and we are not near the time to drive it yet so we have time to include them in the bracketry.

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

Exellent build! Where did you get your measurements for the front suspension? Are the lower control arms mounted level front to rear with the ground? What angle are the uppers mounted on? Are they mounted parelle with the frame rails? I did what you are doing! Im thinking of c-4 vette suspension in my 58' truck. Just curious as where you got your measurements. Some guys wont come off there demensions for nothing..lol

Thanks

Hey Greg
When we were taking the suspension pieces off of the corvette we took measurements of where things were supposed to be mounted. So everything is mounted like it was on the corvette. We will be putting the same suspension on my Grandpas 59 project that he just bought after we finish our current project.

Thanks! I didnt know you had a corvette to strip parts off of. I was thinking maybe you bought the parts already off. I appreciate the reply!

Re: 1952 chevy home made frame build

I have not posted anything in a long time and we have gotten a little bit done. Also Dad got laid off again so the tempo should pick up again like it was. We finished the rear section of the floor and prepared the cab to be removed and we mocked up the rear cab mounts along with the battery bracket. We built a cab dolly and had the cab on it in a couple hours. We also acquired many parts over christmas and one of them was the wiring harness. We made the plate for the fuse boxes and computer to attach to and mounted it in the cab.
