Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finally had the time to weld up and grind smooth groves worn on the rear brake backing plates where the brake shoes ride. After over 50 years of use the grooves were substantial and the shoes would bind in them. Also replaced the shoes and spring kit, rear brakes are operating so much smother and quieter.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

The lower door moldings on my C20 were barely hanging on, and I really wanted to see the front hole. Anyway, I just reinstalled them and I'm pretty happy with it.

Just going through my brakes again myself. Question if I may where are you sourcing parts from?

This was a couple of week project. Test fit and didn't like the way it looked or fit. I made brackets to sit it the way I wanted. I'm happy with the end result.

Talking Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I got another tach dash done. Waiting on parts for the other one.
Both will have tach's, and LED bulbs installed. I reset the odometer back to 00000 also!
I called Manes truck parts to check on a order and got to talking to the owner, he is sending me some NOS tach housings and inserts he had plus he called me back later and said he put some needle paint in the shipment also for free!

I'm going to have the speed warning back together soon also I hope. I had TBone1964 refurb it for me.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finally repainted the interior, cowl area, and jambs of my Ochre 71 C10. PO had repainted the truck a generic yellow (hood in photo that has not been repainted yet) that was in dire need of help. Back to original Ochre but a long way to go.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finished rebuilding my vent doors. Tear apart, blast, repaint and re-assemble with new seals. Just stuck them back in some zip loc bags and into my parts bin. Far from ready to re-install them but I had the parts and the time this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Installed a Lokar cable shift setup on my automatic. Then removed and and went back to the rod system.

The cable system did not work for me at all. Has anyone made this work?

Also installed a holley bracket and solenoid for increasing the idle with the AC running. Had to trim the bracket as it interfered with the throttle linkage and held the throttle open. Can believe Holley can't make a bracket for their carbs (new street avenger) that works without modifications

I could not get it to line up anywhere close with the column gear positions. and it did not work very smooth. Went back to the Lokar rod system and works perfect just transmits vibration due to the idle quality of my cam.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I installed a new vacuum advance and cleaned up the mechanical advance. She doesn’t stumble off idle any more.
Pulled both front inner fenders in preparation to pull the whole front suspension out. It wasn’t totally necessary but figured the extra room would not hurt. Found the front fenders in pretty good shape but the core support and right inner fender rough.
Also put the Chevrolet license plate on the front that I had on my 70 model when I was 16. That was 34 years ago.
