Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

Someone will chime in if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the cabs are identical through the years, with only minor differences for interior features (rear-view mirror mounting, headliner installation slots, small rear window on most 67s, etc...).

Badging is the difference inside and outside of the cab.

There's also the difference in high-hump versus low-hump, and column versus floor shift. Forgot about that. All of the 4x4s and I think manual transmission 2wd will have a high hump, and the 2wd autos have the low. Not 100% on that though.

Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

I don't think I answered the original question very well... There are some cab variations for different models and trim packages, but the GMC and Chevy versions of those models are the same. No differences based on MAKE.

Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

Minor difference in the 72 doors. There is a small indention in the upper edge for the thing that holds the vent window, and 72 (I think?) the rear view mirror mount changed from the roof mount down to the windshield .. (I think?)

But other than that, just the high hump / low hump differences is all I'm aware of.

The 67-70 trucks have a throttle rod and 71-72 trucks have a cable.

Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

Between years there are a few difference as noted above PLUS:

Rear view mirror mounting location - in 72 the mirror was mounted to the windshield. All other years will have mounting holes on the roof.

Fuel lines - There are differences in fuel line holes in the cab for 71-72 for EVAP stuff (I may be a bit off on this. Can anyone verify?)

I know 1972 had a pressure relief valve built into the door jam. Not sure what year this started, but I know it was 1970 or after.

The wiring harness/fuse block is also different for the same reason.

Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

seen a couple threads like this , no one mentions the front windshield surround is different on 67-68 , 69 up is missing the 'indent' at the top where the rubber sits.

Re: What are the differences in chevy Gmc cabs

But, I think the original question was about differences between GMC and Chevy cabs. Aside from badging, it doesn't matter. VIN's will differentiate whether it is a GMC or a Chevy, but not the sheet metal on the cab. Trim items and options were available, regardless of brand.

There are drivetrain differences and suspensions that differ, but aside from the 305 V-6 in the early GMC's, which Chevy didn't get, there is very little. But, sheet metal is the same as far as the cab (and doors) are concerned.
