Jeep suspension seats? (what makes em any better)

I was thinking of getting some suspension seats for my jeep. I'm not actually one of those hardcore off roaders, and I think that when it comes to trail difficulty, "medium" grade trails are as high as I'm interested in going. But mainly light trails, and the trails that are in between "light" and "medium".

That said, I still like as soft of a ride as I can get. Of course in a jeep that won't be much, but why not take what you can get. Probably make it nicer going down lousy roads too. So what actually makes a suspension seat? Too look at them, it appears that its extra foam. I'm imagining some kind of springs or something that are made into the bottom of the seat. But something tells me that ain't the case.

So what makes a good suspension seat? How is it different than a regular seat that just has some extra padding that you put in there?

Not to throw water on your parade but you might get more info in a Jeep or 4x4 forum.

Yeah most likely, but I figured a lot of the guys here had or have jeeps.

The seat bases on TJ, XJ, WJ, and ZJ (Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee) all interchange from the mid-90s for about ten years onward. If swapping into a Wrangler, you'll need to swap the outer hinges so as to retain the tilt latch. Other than that, it's a nice "upgrade". I did it in my wife's '97 Wrangler as her seats were totally trashed. We used some pristine (like new!) cloth seats from a 2004 Grand Cherokee; they only cost us $60 at the local salvage yard! I did do some selective trimming on the plastic side panels to clear the seat belt retractors (no side panels on the original Wrangler seats. She loves 'em and even redyed the rear seat with black to match. My '98 still has the originals and they work great. FYI, if a cable breaks, don't pay $80 for a new one. Rethread the existing sheaths with bike cable for $3 instead. Good luck!

I understand them to be seats that take the name literally... instead of springs which make the seat rigid, they use mesh, straps, etc under the foam tied to an exterior frame so the seat has a lot more give when you bounce it off a rock, etc. Think of it like sitting in a trampoline, except instead of trying to bounce you, it tries to dampen your bounce.

I've never actually sat in one... but I watch a lot of 4x4 shows :p

In watching dirt every day there should be actual 4x4 outlets in texas? Maybe you're close enough to one to go try out a set?
