New Exhaust

Here is a link to a video of my new exhaust. I have a 350, with a mild cam, 2 1/2" dual exhaust with welded thrush mufflers. I am not too happy with the tone though. I am thinking about changing to the Flow Masters 40's series. let me know what you think.

Re: New Exhaust

Don't be too quick to jump to the 40 series. When I had my exhaust done, with the Thrush Welded mufflers, was told they are a copy of the earlier 40 series, since the patent had expired. Don't know what is different between those 40's and the newer design.

Unhappy Re: New Exhaust

I had Flowmaster 40's for about 2 years and loved the sound at idle. But the drone in the cab at speed was too much for this old man. I swapped them out for the Spintech XL's and am very happy with the sound and zero drone now. Here's a crappy video of the Flowmasters before the swap. Sorry, no video of the Spintechs yet.

Re: New Exhaust

Wow I like the sound of the Flowmasters at idle. I have two layers of insulation (foil and padding) on my floorboards so maybe that will help drown out the sound at higher RPM's. But I like the sound of them.

Re: New Exhaust

Resonance in the cab is cool at first but gets old after a while. Got rid of the 40 series and went with glass packs. Still sounds good but not nearly as much drone.

Re: New Exhaust

^ I agree. All of my friends had 40's, and i just wasn't satisified with the sound...so i went with glasspacks. Wont ever go back.

Re: New Exhaust

A H pipe will help also making sure the tips are past the rear bumper, and pointing out back or to the sides not towards the ground will take care or most resonance problems.

I have dual 3" and super 40's and thats what it took to get rid of the resonance or drown.
