I would say 16-18K as it sits, 0rig with documentation could bring 25-30. My Dad and 3 brothers are Auctioneers and 1 has worked B-J, a lot of the SOLD units are sold back to the seller.

Great find!! Too bad there is no SPID. Unless an original build sheet could be found inside the resale value will suffer due to lack of documentation of authenticity. I would have thought as many short bed C-10s you have had you would have found a factory SWB BB Cheyenne. I got lucky and found a '69 SWB BB a few months ago. The only thing that sucks about it is it's a Custom and not a CST. Good luck!

Re: A real Unicorn, Finally 71' Cheyenne Super SWB BB

I suspect (just because of the missing SPID and a few other details) this truck was either a lesser optioned SWB BB (not a big problem), or more likely a former LWB BB. Nothing I see leads me to that suspicion, that is just what I have found when looking closely at many trucks advertised as SWB BB trucks. If it is found to be a real SWB BB (correct frame, BB exhaust hangers, correct weights, original VIN rivets, etc.), I think it would easily be worth high teens to mid twenties. I like the color too.

It's threads like this that really bring out what the things are to look for when trying to find an original truck. Thanks for all the tips guys.

Yes, now a days there's a sh#t load of cut down trucks, which is okay if "done right!" I still believe this is at least a "real shorty", reason being 20 years ago the average shop in a little town probably wouldn't have done it and someone in their 60's would be okay with a longbed.

If CE2, it was 3/4 ton LWB, if CE1 it was 1/2 ton, either LWB or SWB...since it is a 71, if the VIN begins CE1, I would tend to believe it is a true SWB. Of course, you would need to crawl underneath and look at the frame to see if it has been cut and if the frame and cab numbers match.

That being said, as it sits this truck would still IMHO bring 15K with no problem. Add some upgrades as you stated, and 17-20K would sell to the right buyer.
I didn't stick around too long, just in case it turned up missing later.

It would still fetch real good money, some people who are unaware of this forum still don't care about a SPID, because they leave their glove boxes closed and will go for a BB, options and looks alone.

Wonder what it would look like with "full wheel" hubcaps and whitewalls?
Hmmm.

Re: A real Unicorn, Finally 71' Cheyenne Super SWB BB

I'm going to go off the page here and remind everyone Rene says this truck has been running around like this for 20 years- at that time (especially in California where PLENTY of the trucks were still running around) NO ONE I heard of at that time was to the point of cutting down long-bed frames- and you could actually find Short Bed Big Block trucks with less than a months effort. So I would bet that it was a what it appears to be with a few things added to an early restoration. I remember when people were restoring these in the mid-eighties and going to the dealer to buy EVERYTHING you needed except paint and seat covers.
At that time there also was not nearly as much interest in reading and preserving the glove box tag- if it was dirty- you removed it and painted the door with no real concern about documentation.
That's just a perspective of someone that lived through the era- not looking at it through todays eyes.
In fact I just remembered my dad's best friend had one of the RAREST trucks I have ever seen- a black on black '72 Cheyenne Stepside with a Big-Block, Auto, A/C, buckets, tilt, P/S, P/B, tach and shoulder harnesses from the factory. It was lowered from the day he took it off the lot- and one thing I remember him being proud of was the glove box door he had CHROMED! There goes the SPID! Just wasn't a big deal- they were trucks, not Corvettes.

It was! My dad NEVER gave me a car! And I never stole one and I helped restore all my dad's classic cars! It got beat up again- fixed again and as far as I know the dad has it in Arizona where he retired.

Also not to contradict you Jim, but in 1981 here in Kansas I was cutting blazer frames and adding frame to make one a SWB 4x4, and also cut down a few LWB to swb but that was in Kansas not California. On worth mid teens probably
It's a 71 truck.
