05 2500HD with 6.0 BAD MPG, HELP

HI guys, sorry I don't get up to the board too much, hang out on the 67-72 board. Anyway I have a 05 2500 HD ext cab and was getting 220 to a tank of gas and now I'm only getting about 170-180 miles, thats like 8 MPG. I had a mechanic put it on his machine and everything checks out as far as gas usage. Any ideas or help is appreciated. Thanks Randy

How many gallons is it taking to fillup? It is pretty common for fuel level sensors to fail and cause an erratic gauge. Is it shifting erratically, mass air flow sensors get dirty or start to fail and cause crazy fuel ratios and the trans to shift erratically.

It takes like 22-23 gallons when I'm low. Its shifting and runs great. I did notice my oil pressure gauge seems to be running around 40# the other day, never noticed it there before. Thanks Randy

And I thought I got bad mileage. Damn. At least I average about 12mpg. Maybe a fuel leak?

Should have a 34 gallon tank on a 2500HD.

Mine doesn't have that big of tank. Just got it out of shop, he said the air intake sensor was dirty and they installed new plugs. So we sill see if that helps any. Thanks Randy

I said it "should" Not It "does", Ive owned & work on these trucks for a living.......
My old 04 CCSB 1500 had a 34 gallon tank.
My current 06 CCSB 2500HD has a 34 gallon tank.
Yes I know this is a optional tank, But when it get 12-15 MPG having a small tank sucks.

His truck looks like a LT3 trim package truck.....All LT3 trucks Ive seen have the large tank.

Re: 05 2500HD with 6.0 BAD MPG, HELP

The way you phrased it was as if all 2500HD's came from the factory with 34gal tanks and that his was supposed to, and that was not true. If you in fact did not mean it that way, then I wasn't contradicting you, just clarifying.

My truck consistently gets 12mpg and even when the small amount of miles I drive I still fill up every 5-6 days. And when there are no diesel stations that are convenient to me that means I have to plan to fill up and make time out of my day to do so. Yes, it does suck very much.

PO: Glad to hear you think you got it fixed. Let us know if your mileage does indeed improve?
