99 Suburban keyless entry trouble

Help, my keyless entry stopped workinng. I replaced the battery, still not working. I went online to get the instructions to reprogram the keyless entry but it did not work, in fact the door locks did not go on and off as the instructions said so now I'm worried that the problem might be inside the burb. Can someone verify the instructions are accurate? Here thay are:

StepsClose all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder - do not turn ignition switch.
Press and hold the DOOR unlock switch (This is the switch on the door, NOT the remote).
While holding the DOOR lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF ON, OFF. (3 TIMES)
Release the DOOR unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock one time to confirm the program mode is actuated. Remove the key from the ignition.
Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button on one key less remote for approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters. Reprogram any existing remotes at this time as they have been erased.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON (one more click forward) position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

After I released the doorlock unlock switch the doors did not lock and unlock, so I'm not sure whats happening.
Any help would be appreciated.

The instructions go like this.
1. Close all the doors.

4. While holding the door unlock cycle the ignition on,off,on,off.
5. Release the door lock unlock switch the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
6.Pressand hold the lock and unlock button on the remote at the same time after few seconds the doors will lock and unlock confirming the remote is programed.
7.Repeat the previous step to program up to 4 remotes
8. Turn the ignition switch to run in order to exit the programimng mode.

The keyless remote on my 03 Sierra started giving me fits. New batteries didn't work, so I used the one my wife had. She doesn't hardly use hers for my truck, likewise for the one I have for her car. I used it and don't have any problems. My old one I had to get real close before it would unlock. The other one works like new. If both remotes are having the same issues you may look at getting new remotes. Hope this helps.

this is a common problem, or should say defect the only fix is a new keyless entry kit aftermarket of course... I have a 99' suburban myself runs like a tank minus electrical issues, had it since new in 99 still in use today 205,000 miles been up and down mountains over sized loads and she just keeps going!!!
